Bogaerts should be hitting 9th until he snaps out of this funk......but it won't happen

Gladly admit I was wrong about Batten. Made some impressive plays on defense at 1b and then was sitting there on 3rd base after that triple with the winning run for King/Padres. Keep the "kid" on the 40 man!
Bogaerts looking like Machado did earlier in the season - absolutely terrible. Very passive at the plate, taking too many hittable pitches early in the count. Currently, his hard hit % is down nearly 15% from historical averages while his barrel rate is down 1.5% - need him to get back to his norms but that approach at the plate has to improve. Also been advocating he hit after Machado until he perks up; trading with Kim in the #6 spot in the line-up may be the place to bury him for now. Don't think, however, he's pouting about his defensive position - just in a really bad funk. Bogaerts does not have the reputation of being a selfish player unlike some of the guys that left the team after 2023.

That works for me … then on or about May 1 when Manny is back at 3B and Solano is added for DH … Solano slots in at #8.

Padres may go with a bullpen day using Brito and Morejon in the early innings. Not sure they would gamble on Groome or Wolf (neither impressive so far this season) ... maybe Vasquez (also not impressive). Long shot they make a 40 man move to a real prospect for just the spot start.
Wonder if Cleveland would trade us Avila? Timing is everything.
I appears that Darvish cannot be activated until the 30th … so the Padres will need to cover at least three starts (two if they use the off day to re-set the rotation next weekend).
Maybe still can use bullpen days but a stronger argument of a call-up … just not a great feeling on who, both readiness and where they sit in their rotation sequence vs Darvish’s.
