Read where Cronenworth injury higher than calf( read: hamstring!)

A successful Jake is integral to our run to the postseason. If his injury is truly a hamstring, I'm putting him on IR right away! Those things DO NOT heal fast( remember Manny a few years ago?)

Fenn, a Belt signing may be in the offing if Cronenworth is down for any length of time. Personally, I'd like to see Pauley come up and actually play( and not sit!!!)

Darvish on 15 day IL … neck tightness. Gillespie (RP) called up … probably just until Darvish’s next start when they add a SP.

Croney’s is just a bit or an unknown … a bit high in the calf and a bit low for the traditional hamstring … not sure I have heard of that location before … so TBD … but not playing today and with a day off tomorrow we will see on Friday.

With  tomorrow an off day ... starters can work the next round on regular rest thus they will not need another starter until next Wednesday. If they backdated the IL to the 14th (Darvish's last appearance) I think he can come off the IL for the start on the 29th. So maybe only one start lost.

Padres may go with a bullpen day using Brito and Morejon in the early innings. Not sure they would gamble on Groome or Wolf (neither impressive so far this season) ... maybe Vasquez (also not impressive). Long shot they make a 40 man move to a real prospect for just the spot start.

Wonder if Cleveland would trade us Avila? Timing is everything.

Don't understand why they brought up Gillaspie over Estrada.  Estrada has pitched much better although Gillaspie's last two appearances were decent.  If you're looking for a spot start, why not Mazur?  Probably going to put him up sometime during the season anyway, so why not roster him?  He's been the most consistent and efficient of all the Padres pitching prospects so far this year.

Gillaspie over Estrada is a bit of a head scratcher. Maybe with Estrada's health / some soreness? Clearly Estrada is striking out everyone but has still some command issues but see very little in Gillaspie that would make him a better choice.

On Mazur, guessing they don't want to burn a 40 man roster spot ... this early ... for just a spot start. Add that they may not want to break Mazur's development routine in SA (or put him in Coors Field for his introduction).

They may just go with the "bullpen day" if the other four starters keep the pen rested into that start. For only one game ... keep the moves to a minimum.

Rough, lead off triple and leave him stranded. Ughhh!!

Many times they do this as a send off....could it be when Darvish returns Gillaspie is just DFA'D?

He's not bad....but if they don't see him as a regular in the SD bullpen going forward my guess is this is it.

Decent outing by King?

Bogaerts has ZERO business hitting leadoff! Today's lineup was horrible! Not surprising we didn't score!

Only if they need the 40 man roster slot and even with adding Solano they are at 40. Do agree he is on very shaky ground when it comes to making adds to the 40 man … whenever that is.

To paraphrase Orson Wells … we DFA no player until it is time. And at this moment in time not sure there are any better options to add or have to be added.

King was as good as I have seen a Padre pitcher go for his almost 8 innings in a long time. Had the stuff … had the command … efficient pitch count until the end. Tough one to lose on the ground ball hit off the RP Peralta.

MILW was a hot hitting team going into the series but clearly Cease and King had their number. IF Musgrove and Darvish get it together … might just have a better SP staff than in 2023.

——————————-

Watching a lot of games and Bogaerts is not even getting hard hit outs. Have to think when Manny returns to 3B and the Padres do some roster shuffling with Solano … they make a line-up move with Bogaerts.

Can speculated every which way … maybe frustrated with the move to 2B combined with leading off vs down in the lineup … maybe just a slow start … maybe at 31 just aged badly. Getting the sense that Shildt does not like to make changes capriciously … so if he does move Bogaerts it will be to a new stable position in the batting order and is not going to tinker with Tatis, Croney, Machado at #2-4 and probably not ready to move Merrill out of the lower part of the line-up. Profar? He does work the count well and for now hot. Kim maybe if he gets hot since he has speed ahead of Tatis but Shildt seems to like his RBI potential in the middle of the order. A long shot with Solano who seems to hit RHP/LHP equally with a decent OBP (but little power).

Or Bogaerts gets hot and we forget this every happened.
