Padres at Rockies

PreviousPage 6 of 8Next

This is the type of game that nothing goes your way

Hits:

Chris Owings 3

Padres 1

Two and counting.

Lucchesi ... 1.2 innings ... 51 pitches .... 6 hits .... 3 runs

Quantrill ... 3.1 innings .. 65 pitches .... 4 hits .... 3 runs

Neither are earning the #5 SP slot .... both tossing a lot of pitches with little command.

Next up?

Actually Quantrill is pitching twice as well as Lucchesi, but  neither is doing well.

Not much too get excited about.  Bats looked slow and team seemed to lack energy.  Olivares looked bad again.  Myers and Tatis couldn't get good swings.  Perdomo did well but no so much for the other guys.  Interesting to see what they do going forward with this spot in the rotation.  Look for Davies doing much better tomorrow and Padres clinching the series before coming home vs. LA.   We really weren't competitive tonight.

I am not even upset about this one, ever since I saw the pitching matchup, I knew it was an "L" all the way, how Luchessi still has an MLB job, I have no idea

Before everyone cuts Joey & Cal, just remember.... Coors field, Coors field...  most suck there.  Remember how bad Lauer was @ Coors.   Gets in guys' heads, and the altitude does affect some guys stuff.  Not making excuses, it's a real thing.

Freeland off to a hot start.  I projected a loss this game & this series, but I like our chances today.  Davies DOES need to not get knocked out early.

Re Joey though, I pushed all offseason that this was the offseason to trade him.  He's arb eligible next year which will dramatically decrease (especially now/Covid $ issues) his "relative" value to us or anyone else.

I love Lucchesi's attitude & personality.  Dude is a gamer.  But he's kind of a ceiling = floor guy.  He's definitely a MLB P, and his funky delivery might work really well as a long guy coming in from pen.  But could he adapt to that role & come in hot throwing strikes?

Some interesting line-up changes:

3B Garcia batting 5th (ahead of Myers)

DH Machado ... Tingler continues with the DH as a day of rest for starters ... that approach should have some impact on make-up of the bench going forward

C ... Mejia ... 2nd game in a row over Hedges ... granted Davies should be easy to catch and the Rockies pitcher is RH (plus at least Mejia has 2 hits this year) ... but clearly shows no “advantage” for Hedges in Tingler’s mind.

1B Cronenworth ... again ahead of Naylor whose future on the active roster is getting shaky.
