Padres at Rockies

Agree with Almonte as the back-up/call up.  Switch-hitter and not a threat to be lost when we send him down and we have lot of room on the 40 man.  At this point, don't really need Mateo and can't count on Trammell - too many other inexperienced bats in the line-up.

We traded for Mateo “after” all the changes to the rules etc.

I have a feeling they didn’t trade for him to play at USD.

Maybe he doesn’t come up this week but he will be up soon.

Frances’ inexperience at 1b cost Joey a hit  and a base runner.
He should have known that was ProfarS’ ball and been headed to the bag instead of trying to field it.

Trade Lucchesi to the Red Sox or the Angels. Please. Now. While he still has value.

Perhaps next time we could just start with Mr. Quantrill instead of waiting until we are behind?

Not sure about soon unless they have to. They dealt for a back-up SS / super utility / maybe 2B quality prospect (still) with 6 years control. As it stands, Cronenworth is earning the ML role ... Garcia is not going anywhere ... Profar is not going anywhere.

Hopefully he is showing a good swing at USD ... so he is more than a defensive / speed piece on the 26 when we add him. IF Olivares tails off and Mateo has some OF skills ... that could be the window.

If Quantrill has a decent run tonight ... might get your wish.

Grant brought this up during the game ... and might make some sense.

Padres have 3 taxi squad guys on the trip and the pitchers have been worked over on this trip .... might make sense to add Eickhoff or Camarena for pitching depth and NOT have to fly a player to Denver for one game then fly back to SD.

Not a big issue if later they put either on waivers and lose them. Alternatively, they could keep them a bit longer and send out a pitcher with an option (Bednar?).

Actually the way Lucchesi and Quantrill have pitched tonight ... Eickhoff may be a legit option for the 5th SP.

Doesn’t really matter though how they pitch or how many runs the Rox score if all we can muster is ONE hit off of Freeland at Coors.
