Is there any way the Reds would trade him if they don’t get a major league ready starting SS back?
Just thinking.....he’s a 2b/CF...maybe the two things this team needs going forward more than any other.
Plus the Reds appear ready to win “now” and Senzel is kind of a guy without a position right now.
They say they are content holding on to him....but what if?
What are their other needs besides SS?
Frankly can’t think of anything other than SS (and unless that SS was Corey Seager or Lindor can’t see anyone else tempting them to move Senzel).
They can hit ... they can pitch ... and even Galvis is not a bad option on that team.
I suppose if Cleveland offered Clevenger a #1 SP ... maybe.
There may be a chance to get Senzel at the trade deadline if CINN is deep in the hunt and has a key injury to their line-up .... and SD is not in contention.
I could see the Padres at the deadline offering up Yates, Richards as rentals and even Pham, Davies, Quantrill, Lucchesi in the right deals ... IF they are out of contention or even if in contention and adding Senzel helps win.

Quote from BoosterSD on January 29, 2020, 7:04 pmI still say the way this happens is for SD and BOS to split there difference on the money.
So lets say the players are Myers, Margot, Luchessi, and Morejon for Betts and JBJ.
As I mentioned in a previous post, BOS needs to clear the better part of $29M to reset their luxury tax situation. Players going to SD are $38M, and players going to BOS are $17.5M luxury tax dollars leaving BOS $8.5M shy of their goal. And apparently the balance of Myers contract is the hold up. BOS wanting 50% and SD wants to do 25%. So lets say they close to 30%, or $20M. I would split it up for SD with paying $8.5M this year, getting BOS to the $208M goal, and then give BOS $11.5M next season.

Quote from 3fingersplit on January 29, 2020, 8:15 pmFor the life of me I just don't get the whole idea of "Helping" Boston out of their luxary tax problem....It's their problem and they are a BIG Market Wealthy team
Say they made this trade and the Padres send Boston 20 million of Meyers 60 million owed ( 8.5 mil this year and 11.5 mil in 2021) and then pay Betts his 27 million and Bradley...who is way over priced and over rated, his 11 million along with sending Margot, Luchessi, Morejon. Betts and Bradley together don't make the Padres a Wild Card , one and done team.
Please explain to me what the upside benefit is for the Padres in 2020 and even more in 2021 ?
2021 - You don't have Betts, you are paying 11.5 million to Boston for Meyers, you don't have Margot, Luchessi or Morejon anymore but we end up with Bradley and his over priced/under performance contract....Isn't Bradley the same issue the Padres have with Meyers now?
I'm not a very smart guy so please explain to me how any of this is a benefit to the Padres this year or beyond...it sure seems like a bad deal just to move a contract of a guy that everybody seems to hate.
Fowler and Preller gave Meyers the extension so why does everybody hate Meyers ?
All Meyers did was accept the contract the GM and Owner were willing to pay him....Blame Preller for another great money move to go with Headly, Mitchell etc now lets just dump more money to get out of a bad contract that we offered and pay 27 million for a 1 year rental that will play just hard enough to ensure his big payday in 2021. How many Jerseys will be bought that has Betts name on it ? I guess the same as all the Upton, Kemp and Norris
If Boston wants the Padres to take Betts and Bradley....38 million for Meyers plus 30 million then why do the deal?
Andy Green screwed over so many players during his time as manager that I put alot of the blame on him for all the BS head games he played with Meyers, Margot, Hedges, Renfro, Urias etc. San Diego could be 10 games better just because Green is gone
What am I missing ?

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 30, 2020, 3:15 amThe Padres say they are ready to contend right now.....even without Betts.
So I’m sure they feel adding the 2nd best player in baseball will make them even better.
So you’re basing your opinion on the fact that the Padres won’t make the playoffs....maybe they will?
Winning sells more tickets....makes more money.
They obviously are desperate to move Myers.
They also get the benefit of opening 2-3 roster spots.
BTW I don’t see us taking Bradley and his $11 mil.
So this only happens if we save big money in 21’ and 22’ on Myers.

Quote from fenn68 on January 30, 2020, 5:10 amNobody wants Bradley for $11MM and a FA after 2020 (if someone did he would have been traded already). So, if the Padres took him in a deal, they would really reduce the players beyond Myers (or require Boston to eat all of Myers’ contract).
Betts and Bradley at $38MM for one year. (Effective AAV for tax $38MM)
Myers at $61MM over 3 years. Difference $22MM. (AAV for tax $13.8MM)
So, Boston drops for tax purposes $24.2MM ... from a current $239.2 MM ... to $215MM. That drop moves Boston from tier 2 penalties into tier 1 (still over the $208MM target). If you consider the additional penalties for being in tier 2 and the reduced penalties on the $24.2MM, Boston already makes up most of the difference in pay between Myers and Betts / Bradley. After 2020 Castillo comes off the books and they will rest under the threshold.
So, money-wise ... consider a Myers for Betts / Bradley break-even over the 3 year period. Problem for the Padres is adding $18MM to their 2020 payroll to get the benefit of freeing up $20MM in each of 2021-22.
Although don’t like this approach but Betts / Bradley for 1 year should be about 7 WAR (probably a bit less in PETCO) ... Myers a 1 WAR but for 3 years (probably a bit better in Fenway), so 3 WAR ... money equal ... so only need to make up a projected 4 WAR. Margot was about a 1.5 WAR and controlled for 3 years, so 4.5 WAR.
So from that illogical logic ... a Myers / Margot for Betts / Bradley deal would be fair over the course of 3 years. (Bet Boston does not see it that way).
I would even toss in Jesse Schlotens to sweeten the deal 🙂

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 30, 2020, 7:24 amThe Dodgers could solve Bostons money issue no problem by taking Betts and Price.
But they aren't going to give them top prospects on top of that and no way is Bos gonna try to explain to their fans why they lost their best player just to save money.
So Boston has to decide do they want "some" salary relief AND good prospects or just "more" salary relief.
I have to believe if they trade away their best player they are gonna want to give their fans some new young "good" players for doing so.
It would be a bad look to give up Betts...and essentially the season,by trading him and Price for a lesser prospect return to the Dodgers.
This is another reason I think we get this done.....along with Preller needing it to happen AND not wanting Betts in LA.

Quote from fenn68 on January 30, 2020, 8:42 amIt is hard to figure out the real Boston end game ... save money and dip below (or at least close to) the luxury tax threshold. Or are they focused on top end prospects and / or ML talent cheaper and longer control?
Clearly they want both (for now) ... and clearly no team is willing to go that route. Actually, it seems as though only SD and LAD are "interested" .... suggesting although a great talent ... Betts at $27MM for 1 year is not appealing enough to warrant giving up a bevy of top talent (despite the media and fans views). Importantly it will be the GMs that make the call. LAD may be least motivated since they are clearly the favorites to win the NL West ... have a strong offense ... and their top need may be pitching. Betts would be useful but not critical to their success. I did see that some are now linking Price with a Betts trade to LAD ... with Boston eating over half of Price's deal (GMs seem to be saying Price's open market value is around $15MM/yr less than half of his contract for the next 3 seasons). IF LAD take all that money on ... will not give much in the way of talent back.
For me the best option for Boston is they deal with the LAD to take his $27MM for one very good ML ready prospect and a couple of "nice" filler prospects (better than a comp pick) and then DFA Bradley ($11MM). Get under the luxury tax threshold (save a ton of money in salary / penalties) and have a couple of nice bodies to hype for the fans.
2021 they have "reset" and with Castillo off the books can (if they choose) go all in again on the FA market without penalty.
