Consider the family legacy involved at the top that has been so instrumental in Baseball ( Dodgers ) and then consider how impactful winning the WS in San Diego would cement Peter Seidlers legacy.
None of this could be happening if it wasn't for Ron Fowler in so many ways from literally saving Padre Baseball to getting it where it is at now and handing it off to a younger deeper pocket.......This is going to get really fun.
Speaking of owners...this also all happened after Fowler turned control over to Seidler.
Is it safe to assume that maybe Fowler was not so keen on raising payroll to the $160+ range and he "stepped aside" or "cashed in" whatever you want to call it, so it could happen without his approval being needed?
I'm thinking maybe fowler wasn't as comfortable with all this spending and Seidler made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
Congrats Mr P.....I figured somebody would catch my drift.....without knowing exactly how deep the Padre pockets are, the business of the new majority owner is pegged somewhere around 3 billion dollars not counting the Padres and he is from a very storied baseball family....World Series Champions in Brooklyn and Los Angeles and soon to be San Diego and Seidler himself has said it's a family legacy thing from O'Malley to Seidler and it's all about winning the WS

Quote from Brian Connelly on January 19, 2021, 11:53 amThe Phillies announced Monday morning that they’ve designated outfielder Kyle Garlick for assignment.
Garlick, 29 next week, was acquired from the Dodgers last February . Garlick spent most of the 2020 season at the Phillies’ alternate site in Lehigh Valley, though he did appear in a dozen games. He went just 3-for-22 with a double and seven strikeouts in that time, however.
Garlick showed a bit of promise with the Dodgers in 2019 when he made his big league debut and hit .250/.321/.521 with three long balls and four doubles in a small sample of 53 plate appearances. He’s a career .281/.332/.568 hitter in 645 Triple-A plate appearances and does have a minor league option remaining, so it’s not out of the question that a team that is particularly thin on upper-level outfield depth could place a claim on the right-handed hitter.
.... like us. Didn't someone propose a trade for this guy? I think we should just put in a Waiver claim. If he falls to us, great. The next roster add we make, we could turn around & DFA him and it seems like if no one else (ahead of us) claimed him this time, we should be able to outright him to AAA. (Temporarily) have a spot open now...

Yes I did. It was him or the other OFer on PHI roster Quinn. I think Quinn is more capable of CF, which is why I was more interested in Quinn. I was suggesting a Stammen as the piece going over so that SD could save some payroll. Since it appears that Siedler is not afraid to nibble on the barrel, I agree would should look into him. Garlick does only have about 60 games in CF, back in college.

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 19, 2021, 1:53 pmWe could bring Cameron Maybin back?
Not kidding.
Did you notice the year he had in 2019 with the Yankees?
240 AB's with a .364 OBP and 11 bombs.
He's 34 and would probably cost a bit under 1.0 mil
Can he sill field?

Quote from fenn68 on January 19, 2021, 6:17 pmReport: Yates gets $5.5MM guaranteed with $4.5MM of performance bonuses from TOR. Potential $10MM.
Whew ... more than I expected and suggests that Rosenthal is at least in the same neighborhood.

Quote from fenn68 on January 19, 2021, 6:25 pmIn his zoom video today Preller suggested that a 6 man rotation is under consideration since going from only 60ish innings in 2020 to 160 plus inning for a full season in 2020 is not likely for the five SP.
Did say that Lamet is looking good on his rehab but will not really know until he is going all out in ST.
=====
So, Darvish, Snell, Lamet, Musgrove, Paddack plus a well timed spot starter or well timed bullpen days. All season or just insert the extra pitcher in mid-season?
Just something else to consider in building the bullpen ... have a long option for spot starts or have pitchers with options so a starter can be called-up.

Quote from Ben Davey on January 19, 2021, 11:19 pmI would venture to guess Morejon is the 6th starter. Honestly, given the injury history of almost the entire staff (and the ineffectiveness of Paddack) its a pretty reasonable idea IF they are held to no limitations.
It was pointed out that one of the biggest reasons for the Dodgers success was not having to worry about the regular season. Kershaw missed a month injured, no big deal. The Padres are now in the boat that if Lamet or someone goes down with an injury the goal will just be to make sure they are back in September because we can win enough with the other starters to make the playoffs.
