The Twins playing him in LF doesn't mean he should be playing there. He was one of if not the worst defensive outfielders in all of baseball on a per inning basis last season. If you're playing him in the outfield it's about the bat which will need to be a lot better to justify it.

Well he is not a good defensive LF but would be a bit skeptical of any defensive metic on any player ... and Rooker after only after 264 innings in LF in 2021.

Using a different set of metrics for LF playing over 200 innings in 2021 ... Rooker came out #40 of 66 players in dWAR ... range was his downside.

On the dWAR measure (never like this one) he ranked BETTER than Bryant, Peterson, McCutchon, D. Smith, Pollack,  Gallo, and other big names ... now I don't believe that but just shows how unreliable defensive stats can be. However, he probably is not going to be the "worst" LF based on those metrics .. not good mind you but at last serviceable.

Per Padres' website Abrams makes the opening day roster ... offsetting 40 man move needed (maybe Tatis to 60 day)

Tatis to 60 and Taylor DFA

Azocar makes roster ... as well as Wilson, Crismatt, and Guerra.

Garcia on 15 day IL. Rooker apparently to AAA.

I like Azocar over Rooker at this point.  Azocar seems to have made some hitting adjustments late in ST and that, combined with much better defense and base running makes him a flexible option off the bench.  With Gore sent to EP, Crismatt was a keeper as the long man and I'm happy for Wilson and Guerra, although the depth of the RP staff in EP will have them proving every opportunity that they should be on the team.  Hadn't seen anything on Knehr but assumed he also was sent to EP.

I'm guessing at this point Guerra is basically man #40 on the roster.

He needs to pitch well or he will be next one unemployed.

I can see the hand of Melvin in the construction of the final roster.  Many pieces he can maneuver and a strong pitching staff to compete with every day.  I think the impact of the new coaches has already made a difference and hope we get out of the gate well with NO further injuries.

Question for you all......could any or all of these left field options really be ANY worse that having Flim Flam Pham playing left field?

his defense was nothing to write home about....give these guys a chance

No dont think so, and probably no where near the clubhouse issues that Pham would create not starting everyday and batting .240.

How many of the guys he finished above played fewer innings? The answer is 1. Only Clint Frazier played fewer innings and graded out worse. He's going to need to hit a ton if he plays the outfield.

Exactly how I feel too. Preller was working around the edges, just like the A's, to add depth, platoon options, a reliable SP in Manea, plus a late game LHRP in Rogers.
