It can be done!

Quote from Randy Manese on April 6, 2022, 9:33 amNot a typical Cleveland move but at 24.8M average, JRam might still be a bargain. Is this the start of a new era in Cleveland ownership? Sox and Twins have to be the favorites and Detroit and KC are adding some young talent. At least all teams now know the sticker price for someone as talented as JRam even if the team fails to keep up with its division rivals.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 6, 2022, 11:02 amWhat about taking a flyer on Mickey Moniak? Having a great spring, a LH bat, plays decent CF and played at La Costa Canyon High School. If Philly was willing to take Norwood, what if they were offered a real pitcher - should be enough to get Moniak, who really doesn't have a great minor league history to fall back on. Still has 2 options left, so at least some depth in the OF at AAA with more upside than Milone or Thompson.

As it stands Moniak is listed as the Phillies' starting CF ... and no idea who they might have as an alternative except for Herrera who is on the IL.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 6, 2022, 11:21 amI'd move Harper to CF and put Hoskins back in the OF. Not the best defensive alignment in MLB with Castellanos in LF, but they sure can bash! It's a thought but we'll see what Preller is up to. There could be some other young OF's available at a higher price - maybe Kelenic, Adell or Kirilloff.

All three would be nice adds ... SEA - LAA - MINN all have good offenses but weak SP ... and all three seem to want to contend in 2022. So, an impact SP that slots in 2022 in the middle / upper half of the rotation might appeal enough to move one of their starting position players.
Kelenic and Kirilloff have 6 control years (both LHH) and Adell has 5 years control (RHH) ... all were Top 100 prospects. Bottom line it will take a major trade chip to get any one of them.
If the Padres are willing to deal from the ML SP cache ... maybe a basis of a deal.
Not sure Paddack is enough of an upgrade from what these teams have and Weathers not ready for impact. Clevinger is injured. Martinez (I think) can't be traded until June 15th. Doubt Gore is in play for these guys (he may hold more value even in 2022). So would Preller consider dangling one of Snell, Musgrove, Manaea, or Darvish in a deal?
Moving any for a league minimum player would solve the current cap issue. All those teams have the necessary cap space. No idea on the value for value proposition requiring adding others (going both ways) to balance the deal. Darvish and Snell with 2 years control should have the better trade value (and have the biggest contracts) but Musgrove and Manaea may not yield as much with only 1 year control.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 6, 2022, 12:26 pmThinking more of Snell being the trading piece. This would allow a Gore/Paddack piggyback behind Darvish, Manaea, Musgrove and Martinez. Maybe include Beaty or Caratini or Mazara, depending on which team is interested. Still think you can get Moniak for a RP + back-up OF like Mazara; Philly already traded Haseley, so why not Moniak? This would take the pressure off of Abrams to perform in the OF without hardly any OF experience.

The Padres have traded catcher Victor Caratini to the Brewers.
Logic dictates that means Jorge Alfaro has made the club.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 6, 2022, 1:58 pmWell we know something had to give with the Catchers.
Not expecting much in return though….

Opens a roster spot (assuming the minor leaguers are non-roster) ... spot for Abrams? Campusano to AAA as call-up insurance.
Even if Abrams on the active roster ... still one more slot for a position player ... hopefully an OF.
