Not expecting much in return though….
Padres save $2MM and open a roster slot.
Hopefully Preller gets some Rookie Ball / DSL high upside kid rather than a "system guy".

Well really missed on this ... Padres will send some money to MILW and the two minor leaguers:
Brett Sullivan (C) who is on the 40 man (AAA type) ... 28 no prospect
Korey Howell (OF) who should be ticketed to AA ... 23 no prospect
Even for Caratini that seem really a light return.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 6, 2022, 3:18 pmProbably had to make the move either way…..got what he could.
Wouldn’t expect too much for a backup Catcher who’s claim to fame is Catching a Starter who isn’t on the same team anymore.

Quote from WindsorUK on April 6, 2022, 3:43 pmMan, Preller has gone from Rock Star GM to Rock Bottom.........absolute nothing of a deal.
Since he made all those deals at the trade deadline in 2020( most of which were bad) he's struggling....Darvish gave us half a season, Snell 6 games. Without the Musgrove trade, he's been fairly bad.
This MUST be sink or swim year for him. Minors have produced NOTHING and his trades have been meh....at best.
So much for our championship window of 20-23.........

Not sticking up for Preller, but dude was extended to 2026, and promoted, just over a year ago. I'd be surprised if he gets fired, even with another failed season.

This is either good new or bad news.
MLBPipeline slotted Howell as the Padres #16 prospect ... ahead of Kopps.
He does have speed and defense with some power but no sense he can hit which is usually a problem for a position player. He is Rule 5 eligible and MILW chose not to protect him.
Since I don't see the prospect profile in this 23 year old who has been in the minor for a long time ... what is MLBPipeline saying about the Padres' prospect that follow him?

I feel you, with everything we had in the minors and Prellwes start, I was hoping we would be more in a blue jays position. Hope is not lost, but doesn’t seem he has made the best out of his chips
