Would be a great get but.....another infielder?
Two thoughts,
- Someone else would be on the move to open a spot for him, or the more realistic
- Somehow Hosmer is involved, and Voit goes to 1B, and then Ramirez is the DH, and occasionally relieves Manny at 3B.

I’m sure where he plays is the least of the issues but…..what about the cost?
I assume we still won’t move Abrams so Hassell/Campusano/Paddack/+?

Well Preller talks to everyone about anyone … so no big thing.
Ramirez is ALL-STAR quality offensively and defensively at $12MM this year and club option for $14MM next. Cleveland is talking extension but guessing they cannot go as high as he would demand (and get in the FA market).
Ramirez would not DH he will play in the filed and has played a lot of 2B (and some SS) beyond his 3B role (where he is generally in the Top 5) and an MVP vote getter. Under-rated by fans outside the AL / Cleveland.
Cleveland is not going to take Hosmer (and his contract) but maybe another Preller three way deal might work. If a deal played out … I would see Ramirez to 2B and Cronenworth to 1B. Maybe Ramirez at 1B.
This is one that SD would have to include (going somewhere) at least Campusano and Weathers plus some others … that is if they insist on holding on to Abrams, Gore, and Hassell.
Doubt a deal … Ramirez is very very good … would love to add him in the middle of the line-up.

And keep him away from anyone else in the NL West.
Looking at SF here….doubt even the Dodgers have what it takes to get JoRam at this point.

Pipe dream to get Ramirez, but what an INF we could have with Manny, Junior, Ramirez and Croney. Ramirez is one of the best pure hitters in baseball, does not strike out very often AND he just turned 29!

History....Ramirez signs a 5 year extension....124 million.....no way Cleveland is trading him and San Diego doesn't want to take on that contract.....sound familiar ?

If you believe the latest reports our interest was real and we might have had a deal if he didn't sign. At that rate it's pretty clear he had no real interest in leaving though. If we were really willing to give up what I think it would have taken to get him AJ might be ready to pull off something big. We'll see what happens. I'm glad the season starts tomorrow. All the rumors and leaks that lead to nothing are getting old.

I somehow doubt the rumors and leaks will stop when the season opens … especially if Preller does not get a deal done before the opening game.

If anything significant happens I bet it gets done by tomorrow morning at the latest. Opening day is generally an artificial deadline. There might be some action around guys who don't make rosters, but significant early season trades are rare. The Adames trade last year was the first one in quite awhile if I remember right.
