I think he has.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on April 3, 2022, 8:09 amWe just traded for Sean Manaea. I have to think that means there's another trade involving some of our pitching coming too.

Quote from fenn68 on April 3, 2022, 8:17 amThe Padres and Athletics have agreed to a four-player trade that will send veteran left-handed starter Sean Manaea to San Diego, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.. The Padres will also receive minor-league right-hander Aaron Holiday, while Oakland nets right-hander Adrian Martinez and teenage infielder Euribiel Angeles.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on April 3, 2022, 8:18 amManaea is set to make 9.75m. I would think another move to shed salary has to be in the works.

Quote from fenn68 on April 3, 2022, 8:28 amWell, Manaea is very good and really clogs up the pitching roster (pending other moves). FA after this season and carries a $9.750MM salary (Padres go over CBT threshold). Holiday is a 13th round pick last season in the ACL.
Giving up Angeles (who seems to have real potential but a few years out) is not a problem give the other middle INF prospects (and ML players) still around. Martinez is "maybe" a 5th starter.
Good deal the could be better if it leads to a follow up deal for that illusive LF.

It's gotta lead to something, right? Even in a vacuum this feels like another move is coming. We already had a seemingly solid 5 ready for the rotation, plus good depth. Add in the fact that those 5 were already paid big league money and cap it off with the fact that adding another SP hardly feels like a good enough reason to push us over the luxury tax threshold, and it feels even more like something else must be imminent.

Unless....this opens up the opportunity to deal Snell?

Quote from fenn68 on April 3, 2022, 8:39 amA couple of unknowns before thinking of follow-up moves ... first, is this a deal reflecting the health of Clevinger and/or Snell? The readiness of Gore / Weathers? If not, they a follow up deal seems inevitable.
So, if we assume Manaea, Darvish, Musgrove, Martinez, Snell, Clevinger are "starters" ... one could be moved. Plus Paddack's future is even more at risk if having Gore, Weathers, Knehr as the future in the wings. Of they could just flip Manaea but considering the relatively low price the Padres paid for him .... might not get that big of a return to help the ML club ... at least without adding some prospects ... and that probably also goes for Clevinger and Musgrove both with only one year control and big contracts.
A gamble, for a better return, trade Snell (2 years control but bigger contract). If nothing else, even though he still could be a top flight arm this season, removing his frustrating presence may have some appeal.

Quote from fenn68 on April 3, 2022, 8:49 amMusgrove, Clevinger, Manaea are on one year deals and Martinez can opt out (if he is good, he will). Darvish and Snell are on two year deals.
- With that attrition scheduled over the next two years ... can't afford to deal any of there top pitching prospects ... Gore, Weathers, ????????
- Assuming they let Clevinger go ... Martinez opt out and is let go ... the Padres could generate enough under cap money in 2023 to extend both Musgrove and Manaea and go with them and Darvish plus Gore and maybe Weathers (assuming the deal Snell now for 2022 cap space).
