NEW CBA

Unfortunately I have the opposite issue.

With my current back issue I can't play golf or do any of the things I usually do to stay busy.

All I had was the baseball season starting and now this.

I've been so depressed over this failed surgery and dealing with daily pain that this delay

has only made things much worse.

Like I said the other day....I'm a little embarrassed that baseball means this much to me but "right now" it's really all I have

and now I don't even have that.

Talk about depressing.....Ugh!

Unfortunately....for obvious reasons, there just isn't anything much to discuss here either.

So the CBT looks to be getting closer and what a surprise......not exactly the increases I had suggested but increases through out the entire contract.

Read the link.....the Players need to make this happen because they will lose the public if they don't....the Owners actually moved quite a bit in my opinion but like all things contract.....the devil is in the details and not the bullet points

Well on one hand it looks as though some of the key issues we have been focusing on are getting "close" BUT on the other hand issues we have paid little attention to are now key issues ... for example the international draft proposal by the owners is leaping to the fore.

With the current limits in international spending for each team ... and the very low successful rate of signings only after long development period ... not sure why the owners are pushing this since not sure how and international draft would do improve the situation (even if they could overcome the political issues in other countries).

Also, don't understand the Union's strong objection.

Could it be inconsequential to both sides but they pretend it is important so any compromise on this would create an offsetting compromise elsewhere in the negations.

Does seem that the sides are much closer ... MLBPA are considering taking it to a vote of membership ... at least that would gauge the support they have from the rank and file.

I agree, dont understand the push back by the Union on the International Draft. It seems fair to me, the best picks are still getting big dollars and the others down in the draft would be getting about what they are now. Plus, it seems fair that international kids be subject as the same process American born players.

Maybe your right, and both are making a bigger deal to finalize the negotiations on other finer points.

But it boils down to...........JUST GET IT DONE AND PLAY SOME FRIGGIN BASEBALL!!!!!!

Another week gone from the schedule.....Both sides can go kick rocks.....this could have been done a month ago.

I am sooooo pissed

They are objecting cause this would eliminate all the “under the table” money to 14 year olds and their handlers.

Right now the top Intl. guys are making way more than the top American draftees.

Yoan Moncada got $140 mil I believe….pretty sure that’s a lot more than even the #1 pick gets.

But,these kids aren’t even a part of the MLBPA…..this is solely on the table to save the Clubs millions on these Intl. teens.

It also helps small market teams by giving them equal opportunity on top prospects…..which will help competitiveness.

I think the “under the table money” or leveling the playing field in signing top prospects are more of an issue in theory than in reality under the current international signing rules. IF MLB can prove any team violates the rules with with “under the table money” they can void the deal and/or curtail future signings … so a solution. Additionally, projecting a 16 year old from a Caribbean country into a ML star is way more difficult than an 18 year old from the US. We see a large number of “low cost” international signings making it while big signings flounder. Would guess (just a guess) that the draft would not change that and high picks would still fail.

As it is the money to sign international players is capped and sized by the profiles of every team … small market teams get the advantage. Pretty sure the pools are less than the pools for the domestic draft. Simply we don’t see the Moncada, Ona, Morejon type signings anymore.

Not sure how much the owners will save under a draft vs international bonus pools … they control the size of both.

At the core, can’t see why the potentially small advantage MLB would get is reason to hold up the new CBA and cost revenues from lost games (and maybe fan support). I can see the Union not eagerly supporting the proposal … since it is a from for restricting player negotiation rights that they would not like to set precedent in other parts of the negotiations.

Maybe the out of touch owners just rely on the fans coming back as always after the dust settles … net the pluses and minuses and come out ahead. Clearly that is behind the Apple+ deal.
