Tatis with the bomb that gets robbed then the Dodgers with bloops that score runs.
God I hate the Dodgers!

Quote from Alex Tamayo on October 7, 2020, 8:52 pmRight now, I am just happy that we are playing October baseball, this is the only way we can find out what are we missing to be able to play deep into October next year, I have no idea how the SP free agent market, but I as we can see, we should go after a big name SP, regardless of how/if Paddack develops a little further, and/or if Clev needs TJ

This is not fun
I take that back 🙂

Quote from 84padres on October 7, 2020, 9:32 pmSo frustrating. I hate the Duds more and more each day. I hope they lose to Tampa and then we find out next year they were cheating. That would bring me such joy

Quote from Alex Tamayo on October 7, 2020, 10:23 pmYou know what, I dont hate them anymore, they have being trying for so long to get that trophy, that I kind of respect that, if anything I would like our organization to emulate what they have done... Now, about this game, if Hosmer would have taken the same aproach Tatis and Machado took, he would have tied the game, or actually would have found himself in a hitters count, it was pretty obvious Kelly didnt want to surrender the big hit, unless it was really necessary to go right after him, IMO Hosmer was very anxious and that is why he failed

Quote from lafnboy13 on October 7, 2020, 10:26 pmThis is definitely upsetting and frustrating but let's look at the silver lining here. We are making them games without our top 2 horses. These aren't blowouts. Without an error by Hos and robbery then this series could 2-0 in our favor. Let's get our rotation straightened out for next year and then punch the Dodgers in the mouth. The 2020s will be the decade of the Pads.

Quote from Ben Davey on October 8, 2020, 2:30 amPart of what we are finding out is that analytics only work so well. They were the reason we had so many bullpen days. Analytics shows that 1st time through the order most starters do really well. Second time they come back to earth, the third time they struggle. So the approach all year has been for selected starters dont let them go through the lineup more than twice and with some once. We saw that at the beginning of the year with Lucchesi and Quantril. Later on with Morejon and Patino.
Meaning, its great, until it isnt. Pierce Johnson SHOULD have been able to get those guys out to keep it a one run game. Pom comes in and should have allowed no more than one run to score (remember the actual GW run was on a blooper). So the plans SHOULD have worked, and they did for the most part, but in order to beat LA, you need to play perfect ball. If Hosmer gets a hit, if Tatis' "flyout" was a foot higher, the inning turned against Johnson when Mookie beat out a GIDP ball, after the Padres scored their first run, Nola crushed a ball and it died at the wall.
Or how about this. The Padres "barreled" three balls last night, anytime a player "barrels" a ball its usually about an 80% chance for extra bases. The Padres only got a hit on ONE (Manny's HR, the others were Tatis' flyout, and Profar in the 4th which would have scored two).
Point is, that we were one hit away from being tied. If the Dodgers dont play perfect the game is tied. We had some bad luck and failure to execute all resulting in a loss

Quote from Ben Davey on October 8, 2020, 2:41 amBecause baseball is the strangest game that allows for the most analytics, how about this random stat...
Tommy Phan had the 3rd hardest hit ball (105.4 mph) and the 2nd slowest hit ball (60.5 mph) on the night. He went 1-2 in those two AB, with the hit coming on the slow one and a ground out on the fast one.
The Padres hit nine balls 99.8 mph or higher (aka SMOKED). They went 4-9 in those AB.
Hosmer in the 8th and Muncy in the 7th had nearly identical exit velocities with a high launch angle. Both had expected batting averages of less than .180. Hosmer's was an easy out, Muncy was an RBI single.

While most on here have grown up here "hating" the Dodgers, and with the stigma of being the "little brother". We are going toe to toe with them. Without a healthy Clevinger or Lamet. We are close, and we are young as well. This should be fun for years to come. Play hard, learn this season, and come back next year with a couple of pieces in place, and now we are talking!
