Roberts has outsmarted Tingler tonight.

He starts May and Tingler responds by starting Moreland and Castro and neither even faced the right hander.

Now they are facing a steady stream of left handlers.

You know what is the worse part? Is that in that situation, I dont care if its the 2nd inning, Its a F...g elimination game, why are you saving anybody for later, you have the bases loaded, at least pinch hit Nola for Castro, you have Campusano right there IF something happens

I definitely wouldnt call it outsmarted.  Nola looked bad at the plate yesterday and had some issues catching.  Castro makes sense.

With Moreland, what do you do?  You assume that May goes at least two so Moreland would get at least one AB.  You knew Urias was going to come in for some bulk midinnings, BUT most of their big relievers are RHP.  Not to mention Profar has really looked bad this series (that bases loaded AB was awful yesterday).

Beating a dead horse here, but the pitching just isn’t good enough to beat the Dodgers this year or any year for that matter.  Clevinger and Lamet have unbelievable stuff, but are just too violent to last long in this league.  Paddack and Stammen need to be left in Dallas.  Richards and Davies are regular season pitchers only.  The young guns throw hard but I don’t like their stuff at this point.  However, they have time.  Go to work Preller.  If anyone can do it, he can.

Side Note:  I am tired of hearing about Gore.  Piss or get off the pot.  It’s time.

I mean... the Dodgers are literally the best team in baseball and have been all year.  They have widely been considered extremely loaded and became even better with the addition of Mookie.  They were the #1 offensive team in all of baseball.  But we have seen Lamet dominate the Dodgers, Clevinger hasnt faced them but youd assume the same.  Davies can pitch ok for a #3 starter.  Bullpen wise, you think Adams, Pom, Pagan, Rosenthal, and Yates could take out any team no matter.  So if Lamet goes 6, the game is over.  We are currently getting by with our 7th and 8th best relievers.

I don’t disagree.  However, the Dodgers are the only team that should matter in putting the Padres roster together for next year.  You must figure out a way to handle that lineup.

Ummm to an extent and thats what the Padres did.  Why do you think they got Clevinger?  The difference in the series has been two things 1. Injuries (how do you plan for your aces going down)  2. Errors (mental/physical).  If Tatis/Hosmer makes an out on that play, Betts would end up scoring but its 2-2 instead of 6-2.  Padres are hitting .100 with RISP this series, Dodgers are hitting .380.  Time and time again you are seeing the Padres swinging for the fences and the Dodgers just trying to bloop a base hit.

The thing is, when a team is built as well as the Dodgers, in order to beat them you have to play perfect.  If the Padres were playing there best baseball (even with the injuries) its 1-1 in the series and a close game tonight.

even though I hate excuses, maybe you are right Ben, but you know what?, what HE DID, did not work, so I guess doing something else would have worked, what could he have done?, I dont know, that is his job to figure out, not mine, all I can say, is that, this just blows man, regardless of the lack of SP, it looks like they played with a F...g loosers mentality this whole series, is like they do right things, they put themselves in a good position, take good ABs, play nice D, but as soon as the game is on the line, they choke, big time, it happend every series against the dodgers this year, and is happening now, they say that this guy is coming and is gonna do all that, that this other guy is going to be awesome, but I just don't see it, somehow they'll have TJ surgery, get hurt a week before the playoffs, or just loose it, just because... think about it, we probably just made the playoffs because it was a 60 game season, and there wasnt enough time to choke, aka 07 and 10, at the end I am just tired of loosing, this might sound disrespectful to some of you that have been following and suffering longer than I have, but it is what it is, I 'll talk to you in March guys.

Also, dear God.  I think I can count on one hand how many time the Dodgers have swung outside the zone.  It is actually crazy

You are upset with who about the 21 year old Gore? Gore has not hyped himself ... and development has its own timeline. Could argue that the Padres are not going overboard with Gore hype ... otherwise he would be up. If anything they keep saying he is not ready.

Now the media, on the other hand, is creating the hype and what is beginning to look like a set of expectations that the kid has no chance to match. Every chance they have they speculate he should be the call-up based on their inflated projection without regard to his development. I guess for their own reporting needs.

He will be up when the Padres think he is ready (now that may be never but that is a different worry) ... no value to bring him up early when all the other options are here.

Yes.  This is the glaring noticeable difference between them & us.  I can easily picture : Grisham, Myers, Hosmer all expanding the zone & swinging at pitches they couldn't do damage with in that series.  Tatis came through with the long AB walk in 9th in game 2, but he gets overeager especially early in counts, still learning how to manage being down 0-2, 1-2.

Good news is we're vastly better than last year, and some guys are young & inherently patient (Grisham) & will improve.  Bad news is LAD are a freaking juggernaut that if 2020 were a full season really had a chance for one of best regular season records ever.  Their SP looks SO deep & young & dead $ off books, that even with some FA, it's just going to be hard to catch them.

In a game at full health, we are right there, and Pads have the motivation they need to work to get better.
