Quote from LynchMob on July 25, 2019, 7:18 amFrom today's article on the Dust Devil's game ...
“Also, my girlfriend came out, and she has been taking video of all my at-bats, so its a team effort,” laughed Driscoll.
So ... does this imply that not every minor leaguer gets every PA video's? How can THAT be?

That makes three 60 day IL pitchers who have started their rehab in the past few days: Nix, Castillo, and Richards ... baring a set-back Nix and Castillo will come of the 60 day in August and a 40 man roster bump will be needed. Richards coming off TJ could get a few 10 day extensions ... have the minor league season end and just stay on the 60 day I guess but the Padres probably want to get him some ML time before the end of the season ... so maybe all three will need roster spots.
Also, Avila is also starting his rehab so not likely a candidate for a move to the 60 day.
Earlier there was talk of Loup nearing a rehab and also a candidate to return to the 25 man in Sept ... another 60 day guy needing a roster spot.
Bottom line is that if trades in the next few days do not clear some roster slot ... August should see some DFA players.
Not sure on the new rules, but an August waiver is non-revokable and teams cannot trade players on a ML contracts BUT if two teams make a claim does the player automatically go to the first priority team or can the Padres strike a deal for a MINOR LEAGUE non-roster player rather than just losing the player? I know that deals of minor league contracts are not prohibited per se. I would guess no (seems like a loophole) but ?

Quote from fenn68 on July 27, 2019, 5:19 amNew MLBPipeline rankings are out .... SD now sits at 3rd best farm system after the Rays and CWS. 2019 Draft and international signings are included.
No great surprises but rankings are always the source of debate.
From the draft: Abrams (Padres #4, MLB #48) and Head (Padres #23)
From international: Preciado (Padres #26) and Mena (Padres #27)
Looking at the Top 10 by position to get some better comparative view:
Catcher: Campusano #9 (also Padre #9)
2B: Urias #2 (Padre #2); Edwards #5 (Padre #5)
RHP: Patino #9 (Padre #3)
LHP: Gore #1 (Padres #1); Morejon #9 (Padres #6)

Quote from MrPadre19 on July 27, 2019, 9:07 amI'm sure it's because I am familiar with our prospects but it sure seems like we should still be #1.
When Buddy Reed is your #29?
Joey Cantillo is #19?
The White Sox are pretty deep but to me the Rays are just top heavy.

Quote from fenn68 on July 27, 2019, 9:57 amI can see how they end up with that lower ranking ... not sure I agree with the evaluation of the individual Padre prospect rankings but that just goes with the territory.
Looked at now vs. 2018's ranking and the "graduations" have taken a heavy toll:
2018 v. 2019
"70" ... 1 (Tatis) v. 0
"65" ... 0 v. 1 (Gore)
"60" ... 1 (Gore) v. 0
"55" .... 8 v. 7
"50" ... 10 v. 2
So, 20 "50 and above" in 2018 v 10 "50 and above" in 2019. With that comparison, amazing they are still 3rd.

Thanks for posting that FENN... The drop in # of "50" prospects was extremely noticeable and a little ominous... some due to graduation, but others have "fallen" from 50 down to 45.
Still a great system, but hard to imagine with new Intl rules, etc that we'll ever see a Farm as good & deep as Pads system begin 2019 again.

Quote from fenn68 on July 27, 2019, 2:36 pmOnce Gore graduates (likely next season), along with Urias, L.Allen, Baez, Munoz, and Morejon .... that deep system is getting shallow unless a number of those “45” rated really improve (some surely will).
Have to hope the prospects that are here (or here early next season) are the core of the future.
