It's Paddack Day!

I found this note in today's Daily to be fun ...

Jorge Oña ... crushed a ball off of rehabbing Dodgers starter Julio Urias to deep left-center for his eighth home run of the season.

Question: the pic of Urias about to hit a ball as part of today's Daily (https://madfriars.com/2018/08/16/padres-daily-farm-report-august-15/) ... shows him with his back foot off the ground ... that seems less than optimal ... or ... is it OK?

https://www.letstalkpitching.com/t/batter-lifting-back-foot-off-ground/17838 ... suggests that, yes, it's OK 🙂

I think depending on the swing at the time and the batters intent it is mostly OK.

Going the other way for instance.

Being out in front of a change up is another....but in general I would think it is an indication that the hitter has shifted his weight forward too soon.

I do find it amusing that the article uses Babe Ruth and Bryce Harper as the examples to prove it is "OK".

Those guys are not exactly the "norm" in regard to the perfect swing.

It's OK and totally normal in a good, powerful swing. Weight shift and hip rotation often cause that back foot to drag or pop off the ground ever so slightly. Even if it doesn't, the foot isn't *planted* and firm through the entire swing.

It's Paddack Day!

Why didn't Paddack start this week?

Why didn't Paddack start this week?

As I recall he did but in a game that was rained out before becoming official ... somewhere around the 4th inning. Paddack had given up a couple of runs +/- but was not hit hard (at least from the box score perspective).

The Padres had a guy that was a hitter and he ended up in the Hall of Fame....watch some of his old tape and you will see him hitting off his front foot
