Both getting promoted to A- SS ball. Both with strong BB/K’s (marcano at 26/10 and Edwards at 13/10). It’s just the AZL but both are young, Edwards has a big ceiling with his 80 grade speed and positional value but Marcano is another deep Padres sleeper to watch (also Joey cantillo and Omar Cruz are other interesting Padres deep sleepers)

Indeed. Down the stretch we could be looking at a rotation that features Lucchesi, Lauer, Nix, Kennedy, and/or Lockett along with a bullpen headed by Stock, Castillo, and Wintgenter. That's something to look forward to every day!

Quote from brent wolff on August 8, 2018, 12:49 pmQuote from sportwarrior on August 7, 2018, 11:37 amCal Quantrill sure responded nicely to the surprise promotion. 6ip, 7h, 2er, 4k. Here's to hoping he rights the ship and finds some control in AAA.
Don't forget that Quantrill has intentionally been working on his other pitches to improve them, so when he does get to the bigs, he will be better prepared for success. He was quoted in an article as saying (summarizing here) "I would normally throw my fastball low and to the outside corner, but instead I have been working on different pitches or location in those situations so I that I will better long-term success in the future." Therefore, I'm not as worried about Quantrill's stats overall, would everyone like them to be more dominant, sure, but just remember, he is trying to improve his other offerings (not his fastball or change) as he works his way to the majors. Go Pads!

Posted by mavs on Aug 8, 2018 | 12:26 AMGood they can get 3-4 weeks in TC to finish off the summer ... both seem well advanced for the AZL. Combine this with what likely is some time in the Fall instructs ... given the Padres propensity to aggressively advance better prospects ... could be in FW to start 2019 and the plan of very young players in FW will continue. Might be an interesting survival of the fittest if Marcano and Edwards deserve low A ... yet Arias and Lopez (both highly touted prospects) are not ready to move to LE ... ????
That also assumes that Miller and Basabe jump to LE to likely join E.Ruiz to for the middle INF there.
Nice potential middle INF rotation in both low and high A. Since no clear winners at 3B ... we may seem some exposure to 3B for some. Good problem I think!

Quote from LynchMob on August 8, 2018, 3:01 pmTonight's Tincaps lineup ...
... makes me wonder ... what minor league lineup has had the most players in the same major league lineup?
I can envision 5-6 of these kids in the Padres' lineup in 2022 🙂

Quote from fenn68 on August 9, 2018, 10:59 amHudson Potts up to SA .... France up to EP.
Looks like the Padres are giving all the performing prospects that look at the next level for the final 3 weeks .. at least the position players.
