Got my first glimpse of Figueroa and he is huge!  Big upper body with a lot of strength in his arms.  First time up, hit a solid single up the middle.  Second time up, hit a ball high off the right-centerfield wall that just missed being a HR - ended up with a double.  2-4 is not a bad debut and no K's.  He looks like the real deal.

Did we ever get an update on Kash Mayfield?

No, we have had teasers that an update is coming, even from MadFriars, but so far nothing.  If extremely serious, would think he would have already been put on the IL and it would have been reported  as upcoming surgery.  Hopefully, "just" a shoulder strain and back in a few more weeks but sure would like to know for sure.

Just a little more background on Victor Figueroa to help you even more pull for his success.  His father, Jonathan, was signed out of Venezuela by the Dodgers as an international free agent at age 18.  After 6 years in the Dodger system he was released in 2007 and bounced around the independent and foreign leagues until 2009.  Tragically, he had contracted lupus and died in November 2009 at the age of 26; Victor was only 5 years old when his Dad passed.  His father was a big guy, 6:05, like Victor but a little less massive at 205 pounds.  Hoping that Victor has the career that his Dad only dreamed of!

Maybe I just have not looked that closely ... but don' recall seeing Fountain in the ACL line-up recently ... injured? or am I just off (more than usual)?

Fountain has played since last Thursday, May 15.  No reason given so far as to why he has been absent from the line-up.  As you know, off to a good start hitting as the DH.  Like to see a little more power but that should come as his right elbow heals after TJ surgery last October.

Victor Figueroa had a good night at the plate, hitting 2 singles, a towering HR to left-center and drawing a walk.  Showing a good eye at the plate and usually gets the bat on the ball despite taking big swings.  His lone out of the night was a high fly to left-center that was caught at the warning track.  By the way, the announcers for Visalia said that one of Figueroa's singles had an exit velocity of 111 mph - his other two hits also looked well struck.

So far, so good, but with that big swing got to see how he's going to do as the pitching gets better (sliders/curves/change-ups) and he sees more velocity.  Still, looks like a steal so far in the 2024 draft.  I forgot to mention in my last post about Figueroa that Victor's father was a LH pitcher and not a position player.

If you can make it to Lake Elsinore this week might be your last chance to see the current team as it stands today. Ryan Jackson and Zach Evans have a good chance to be promoted to High A after this series and you're going to want to watch the first homestand of big 1b man Victor Figueroa.  His numbers are down from the unworldly marks he put up in the ACL but still impressive and he's keeping his K rate right around 15%, not bad for a power bat.  Hopefully, we will see Mayfield soon, as it appears his shoulder injury was not serious.  Likewise, Cobb Hightower should return soon so the line-up will be very good until those promotions are made.

That’s four consecutive very good starts in a row for Jackson Wolf at El Paso

How does Figueroa look as an athlete? Is he projecting defensively as a 1B at the MLB level?

And is he a bit old for the competition he's playing against? Will that too catch up to him?

Any idea why Cobb Hightower hasn’t been playing?
