Is there anything mechanically going on with Baez? Reports from evaluators have been very lukewarm and think there's something to the diminished velo and command issues - He's dropping in the eyes of many.

Back issues in the offseason. I was hoping he could regain some velocity the further removed.

I'm bum'd that both Reggie Lawson and Mason Thompson are struggling ... they have always been dark horse / long shots ... but they seemed like better than average bets ... but, alas ... they are now seeming more and more typical ... baseball is hard ...

Well aware of the back issues, this isn't that, in my opinion. I just think he's turning into your classic one year wonder where he was older and more advanced than who he was playing against. I think the back MAY be contributing to something more mechanical though, but the dropoff in "stuff" is pretty alarming. Lawson is also really regressing.

No info on Baez (or Lawson for that matter), but we need to keep in mind that player development is rarely linear.

You can almost never give up on a guy with “stuff”.

Signed Corey Kluber and Miles Mikolas.

Logan Allen's curveball is coming along nicely. Naylor is not going to be an OFer.

If you're aware of the reason for the lower mph then how could this be alarming? It's not like he's putting up terrible numbers while this is going on, and this isn't going to delay him. I mean you have to put it in perspective. Scouts want a 98mph 12k/9 80FB and instead are getting a 92mph 9k/9 60FB.  Of course there's backlash, because if there's one thing scouts hate it's being made to look bad.

Because there's a difference between diminished velocity and something mechanically wrong in a lot of cases. Velocity is a useful asset, but I'm much more concerned about the walk rate spike and the K rate dropoff against better competition. Just my two cents.

Also - Eguy Rosario to San Antonio?

For some reason Reed went on the temporary inactive list and equally for some reason Rosario got the filler role.

Velocity is good IF it is contained in control / command ... sometime the objective is to reduce velocity to get the FB to locate better (or have more movement) ... also Baez needed to develop secondary pitches which may take a bit away from velocity. A straight 98 MPH FB with little in secondary pitches may work in A ball but not in the upper levels. Development is a bumpy road.
