Quote from 3fingersplit on May 31, 2024, 12:31 pmHey Randy,
I just wanted to say thank you for keeping all of us apprised of what is going on in the minors. Between you and Lynch Mob, I think you guys give all of us get a glimpse of what the future may hold...keep up the good work.
Go Padres !!!
On a side note... I had to laugh because I just noticed that I reached 1000 posts...I never thought I would be around long enough to get there. Next milestone...1001 🙂

Quote from Randy Manese on June 2, 2024, 8:23 pmAs thin as the position players spread through 4 full season levels, Ft. Wayne suffered a big blow by the loss of Albert Fabian for the season. When he crashed into the wall going backwards trying to catch a long fly ball, it wasn't reported as that severe an injury but apparently there's a fracture of some kind that they don't want to take any chances with so a tough way to end the season for a guy who was just finding it before the injury. Fabian will be (or could be) a free agent after the season but I think the Padres will try had to keep him in their system.
On a more positive note, the other day Isaiah Lowe came in after the 1st inning for Lake Elsinore and showed why he could move up the Padres pitcher prospect list quickly. He's really had only one bad outing and there have been no reports of his shoulder injuries recurring or bothering him. I say he moves up to Ft. Wayne after some of the pitchers rehabbing in the ACL and others who have shown well thus far are promoted to LE. He's moved ahead of Baez on my list and could be close to equal footing with Pinales in the 2nd tier RH pitching prospects.

Quote from Randy Manese on June 6, 2024, 9:19 amDominican Summer League season got under way and after a couple of days of rainouts for the two Padres teams, they are both underway today. Dont see prize RH pitcher Humberto Cruz on either the Gold or Brown roster so thinking that maybe he's already in Arizona and just going through a long spring training - after all, he's only 17 and pitched a bit in the Mexican league. More quantity than quality down in the Dominican but you never know who come up and bite you!

Why did they have him skip AA and go straight into that nightmare league?

Quote from Randy Manese on June 6, 2024, 2:38 pmIm guessing that because he is an older pitcher (not really a top prospect) and normally a more ground ball pitcher vice a fly ball pitcher they'd give him a chance. Unfortunately the PCL can turn even good pitchers into batting practice pitchers. They needed a start, if even a spot start, after they lost Mazur so this might be a one and done (back to Ft. Wayne) for Cienfuegos now that they signed Westphal.
On another matter, the Dominican Summer League Padres Gold team probably set some kind of record(s) by winning 31-2, yes that's not a misprint, 31-2, and even better than that it was against one of the Dodgers DSL teams. They had 22 hits and 15 walks although only 21 of the 31 runs they scored were earned. Incredibly, all 15 position players who went into the game for the Gold got at least 1 hit! By they way, the other Padres DSL team, Padres Brown, also won today but the score was a more normal one, 5-1.

Quote from Randy Manese on June 8, 2024, 11:40 pmAs Ive said before, it is a journey , often a painful one, to watch minor league prospects make their way up the system or be flushed out by how difficult the game is to play the higher you go. I like watching guys like Jagger Haynes and Isaiah Lowe who hadn't pitched much due to injuries, work their way into being legitimate prospects. I like watching the poise of 17 year olds like DeVries and Gonzalez become comfortable at Low A and slowly build up their batting and slugging averages. I like the unexpected 14 run comeback by the Chihuahuas to win 17 to 16 in 9 innings today! Even though he gave up 7runs and 2 HRs today, I like the fact that Lesko struck out more than he walked. Its finding the silver lining and recognizing growth by watching these kids play with enthusiasm to try to succeed when their chances maybe only 1 in 100! Anyway, with 12 games to go in the first half of the California League, the Storm have a chance to clinch it against a couple of the weaker teams in the league - Ill be in LE on fathers day to rout them on!

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 9, 2024, 5:38 amDevries is holding his own in A ball which is impressive at his age and Lowe has looked good.
On an individual basis that’s about all I got myself.
No one above A Ball has done much yet.
Still optimistic as I always am…..was hoping at least Pauley would dominate at EP though I guess the summer is approaching.
More worried about the pitching…hoping they’re just “working on stuff” and staying healthy is they most important thing, but Snelling/Lesko/Bergert have not looked like the top prospects they are yet.
