Bit of surprise there. The pen has names I did not expect but good chance some are holding spots until some others who were held back i extended are ready to be added to the roster.

EP roster is out ... at least in part. Only 23 names released (11 position and 12 pitchers) .... room for one more position player and one more arm I guess.

A few "old" names missing from all the rosters: Perez (2B); Torres (OF); Moreno (OF); and Gillespie (journeyman in camp). Not much else with position players.

Never can be sure with arms (health / readiness / DL) but Capps is not listed but probably in extended for now.

Remember that PCL rosters have 24 active slots. The final slot will probably be filled by the roster move that makes room for Tyson Ross on the big league squad.

Perez, Torres and Moreno were all released previously.

Capps does not have a new injury issue.

Thought they changed the AAA roster limits to 25 a couple of years back ... we will see.

I guess with Capps since he cleared waivers he is not a major league DL candidate and does not get a re-hab assignment. So, just sitting him in extended until he is ready to be placed (and consume a minor league roster spot) is the option. As I recall the comments upon his departure to the minors was that although not a new injury ... he is still recovering (getting into full pitching shape / velocity) for the surgery last year. Will be interesting to see if he shows up in the minors or just gets released.

Happy Minor League Full Season Opening Day!!!!

Good slate of pitchers today:

Lucchessi on the hill for the Padres

Lauer gets the start for El Paso

Quantrill starting for San Antonio

Bachar on the bump for Lake Elsinore

Margevicius takes the mound for Fort Wayne

What is the reason Andres Munoz is not on a roster?  After last season and his AFL dominance, I figured he would be fast tracked.

He was having some arm pain in camp. Last update I got was the start of the week and was, predictably, vague. No current ETA.

Lauer was not on early lots of 3 ball counts and long deep gappers. Didn't seem to have the slider working for him until the 5th.

Guerra took it 370 the other way over a 20ft fence, went hulk smash in the next AB though. Great feet at SS.

Jankowski with 2 infield singles, one not even that deep at SS just 5 or so steps towards 3rd.

Urias saw at least 30 pitches. Ridiculous plate discipline/eye. The error should have been charged to Craig definitely not in the realm of extraordinary plays to make.

Lloyd seemed to pick up some velocity with the move to the bullpen. I thought he was whipping it in there at least as fast as Aro and Aro was clocked at 94-95 in the spring.

If Lloyd was at 94, he's added significant velocity in the last two weeks! Great observations on the game... look forward to your insights throughout the year.
