Getting close to game action

Wonder if he starts at LE or higher since he was supposedly more advanced than Snelling on draft day

Given he is coming off TJ and has not pitched in a long time ... and he is a "prized prospect" ... Padres will work him in slowly in AZ and maybe get him a couple of views in LE in August. Let him continue a controlled path in the winter instructs. Then the next spring when he should be full speed ... fair question as to where the place him to start the season .. LE or FW. If LE (and he is as advertised) would see him in FW mid-season. Starting in LE keeps him out of the cold, wet mid-west early (not good for his arm).

He should move quickly, so not a big thing where he starts the journey.

EP put Iglesias on the temporary inactive list ... no idea why.

EP has a bit of an issue with only three guys who can play INF (non-1B) in Batten, Lopes, and Witte. Maybe another move is pending (someone off IL like Schrock?)

How is Graham Pauleys’ defense at 3b?

What’s gotten into Tirso Ornelas?

Been waiting for him to pit it altogether….has he?

In June:

.387/.441/.645

3 hR

15 RBI

24 hits in 14 games

😳😳😳

Tirso is built like a tank. Hope he is putting it all together and becoming a middle of the order type hitter and a possible core player.

Ornelas has been one of the more frustrating prospects to follow … signed as a 17 year old with an exciting projection has had a career (now 23) of extreme highs and extreme lows. He has been “young for the league” coming up as the Padres pushed him … so maybe the return to AA has settled in and he begins to show that promise.

Still would like to see his power show up more in games since if he makes it to the ML it will likely be as a LF/1B/DH and considering he is not a plus runner it may be that power will be the key to sticking.

Rule 5 eligible again (not selected last winter) but if he hits well for the rest of the season in AA might need to protect him since closer to the ML level and the Padres need near term hitters … don’t think there will be a 40 man issue next winter.

How is Graham Pauleys’ defense at 3b?

Don’t know but as I recall he was more a middle INF in college.

Not sure how the Padres view Pauley … not a high draft pick out of college … hitting extremely well in low A (but advanced for that level and not pushed up to FW).

Unless they see a projected issue with his swing / bat speed … not sure why he has not been moved to FW given his experience / production combo.

With Machado locked in at 3B … I could see Pauley (at some point) moved to LF given the Padres system is a bit light in OF prospects. Let’s hope Pauley become that hidden gem found lower in drafts now and then.

Saw a note that Lesko will get his 1st professional inning on Tuesday ... hope for the best.

With Iglesias "temporarily inactive" and now Tucker on the ML IL ... EP has a significant shortage of position players except for catcher. Wonder if they plan to move up someone from AA or find a minor league player to add?

OF (3): Kohlway - Azocar - Liberato

INF (5): Batten - Lopes - Witte as non-1B plus Ravelo - Rivas as 1B  (note Rosario was in EP for rehab but his ankle acted up and he is down again) (Schrock is rehabbing in AZ so maybe he is an add).

C (3) ... so 11 position players leaving a bench of only 2 to start any game and if they need a sub / spot position starter the have to deploy someone well out of position.

A lot of IF with Rosario, Schrock, Iglesias ... in the interim EP is going to have to make do with a lot of limitations.

The ball must look like a beach ball to Tirso right now!

HR's in 3 straight games.....12 hits in his last 5 games.13 RBI in his last 4 games.

Please let this be real....I've been hoping for/expecting this turnaround for 4-5 years now.

Still a small sample size but he's been on a tear for really the last 18 games.

I wonder what he would do in El Paso?...he only got 14 AB's there last year.
