Monday, 5 June, kicks of the Rookie leagues in Arizona and the Dominican Republic for Padres' lowest level farm teams.  Hopefully, Padres will announce the rosters of their 3 teams a day or so before games actually begin.  With the exception of about 10% of the 95+ prospects expected to be on these rosters, don't expect to see that many standouts way down here - it's developmental takes on a whole new meaning, especially in the Dominican.  Still, hoping to be surprised in a good way!  Looking for the Lesko debut and curious to see where they place Salas, could be anywhere from Lake Elsinore to the Dominican, although highly unlikely it will be the latter.

6/1/2023 is his Birthday (Thursday) @ 17 yrs old ..will be the youngest player in LE.. book it...He won't wait til 6/5 to know where he is going.. AJP went to see him play the other day and all he did was hit hit a Bomb and steal a base... 5 tool C = Unicorn.. he will be fast tracked and could have a Tatis Jr type minor league (brief) career with our NEED at C and the lack of FA available in 2024 and 2025... If he hits well enough in 2023 and to start 2024 we might see him in SDP on his Bday 6/1/2024.. probably more like 2025 (18-19 yrs old).. But who knows ..he is pretty special.. and has been C longer than Nola has at 16 yrs old...

This is a tough situation for a GM.

Even if Salas is better than who we have if they promote him at 18 and it hurts his development in any way it will be a bad look.

He has to be ready.....regardless of what we have here at the major league level.

I'm as excited about him as anyone...but he's still 16.

We have to temper our expectations "some" before he's even played a minor league season...let alone one game.

Just my two cents

Awesome!

Will be fun to watch

Wish I could see his debut tonight, but already had plans.  Henry, will you be there?  Young players like Verdugo are struggling after decent beginning but Zavala has settled in after tough start - be interesting to see how Salas does with all the hype of being better than any player we have in the minors, maybe even better than Merrill.  Salas still growing but advanced way beyond his years in skill development and maturity; Merrill still adjusting to his "new" body and not getting his lower half fully involved yet; hopefully, that won't take too much longer in his development but he too is advanced for his age mentally as a player.

Jose Iglesias re-signs with the Padres.

That’s a bit of a surprise but I’ve always liked his bat so not upset about it.

I guess he used the opt out window to see if any other team wanted him on a ML contract (or at least a better shot at one).

Padres need some veteran INF insurance in AAA so probably welcomed him back.

Salas doubles in his first professional AB.

In his first AB fell behind 1-2 but worked it into a 3-2 count.  Then fouled off a couple of balls before lacing that double in the gap between the left and center fielders - hit hard but not as hard as his single to right field in his next at bat.  Very poised; good eye; great balance at plate; simple swing.  Let's see what the kid does with the bases loaded.  Down looking on a nice curveball on the outside corner!

He is unbelievably advanced ...a true 5 tool C .. we got ourselves a C for 15+ yrs in San Diego

I thought he had to be 17 to play State side? I know he will be in 48 hrs but ???
