How this guy didn't make FanGraphs top 43 Padres prospects is puzzling. I know he's not a very good catcher, but his bat is more advanced than a lot of the guys that made the list.

Quote from WindsorUK on June 12, 2018, 4:55 amWhere's Cordoba ranked in our galaxy of young stars?
Is he a legit prospect? He looked solid last year just about everywhere we put him.
Is he a 3rd baseman going forward?

Quote from imakewaves on June 12, 2018, 6:01 amSince he has more than 150 Major League at-bats, he does not qualify as a prospect. As far as position is concerned, he is probably going to bounce around the infield as a utility type player. The biggest thing with Cordoba is going to be the maturation of the offensive side of his game.

Since he exhausted his rookie status as a Rule 5 player last year .... he never is ranked on any of the top prospects list (neither are Diaz nor Torrens). From my view I really liked his potential primarily due to his bat and OF play ... noting his INF was "a work in progress". However, saw him make some outstanding plays in LF ... speed, effort, awareness.
Hopefully he is fully recovered from his major concussion issue but the Padres had a top prospect a few years back (Brett Cumberland?) who never really beat the problem and had to retire in the minors. So a bit of worry yet.
If we concede SS to Tatis (likely) .... 3B is a possibility but he may be on the same schedule to the ML as Hudson Potts who is beginning to heat up in LE and is younger and now a better fielder. If his bat warrants keeping in on the same path as Potts ... maybe OF is his destination. He has three minor league options remaining (one will be used this season if he comes of the DL and assigned to LE).
If you like 5 tool potential ... Cordoba is one to watch.

Quote from fenn68 on June 12, 2018, 1:54 pmWith only 22 initially announced (all from extended ST) and would expect about 35 on the roster .... should see a big influx on yet unannounced 2018 draft signings. Thin INF should get a quick boost from draft picks Miller and Becker who have been signed and announced.
An unknown is which extended ST players are nursing injuries that may delay their placement on the TC roster.

Quote from fenn68 on June 12, 2018, 2:29 pmSide note ... we should get a list of those extended ST players who did not make the TC / AZ rosters and were released (or still in extended as injured).

Quote from WindsorUK on June 12, 2018, 3:02 pmOkay, who is Tri City and where were the guys on the roster playing before?
Is this a low A ball team, short season, instructional league?
Pardon my ignorance, I'm just not terribly savvy about the big league at the bottom end.
I know SD is at the top, followed by AAA El Paso, AA San Antonio, High A Lake Elsinore, Low A Fort Wayne. Outside of that, it's all kind of a mystery.
