All we need to know about $$ right here.. for Othani/Soto/Manny's of the world there is NO budget.. just Get it Done!

What are the rules (limits) on making trades to add to the international money pool?

With the potential RP trades off the current roster … maybe getting international money is a better return than a fringe prospect? Of course timing would be critical as the bulk of the better prospects will sign sooner than later given all the early handshake agreements.

Don't know the exact limits..but I've seen plenty of trades where a team gets +$1,000,000 or more in Intl pool $$

With the loss of picks 2nd and 5th (2023 draft) and -$1mil in Intl pool for 2024 (next Jan)..and SS DeVie #2 spec for that class.. I can see AJP trading Someone like Crismatt or other for Intl $$ and/or Comp pick (only picks that can be traded).. to recoup some of his bullets and flexibility

Thing the other side of the transaction with a team giving the international money for a ML player … makes a lot of sense for them since, as I understand it, they are giving the other team only the right to spend more … not actually money. Basically “sleeves out of their vest” for a team that does not go deep into international signings.

Essentially the team would be getting someone like Garcia for just his contract and nothing else given up.

The seller of the player has to find a trade partner while evaluation the value of the trade chip vs any existing prospect return vs spending on international FA … plus at this point evaluate who is still available who would sign with your team. Probably why so few of these deals happen. Easier to trade now for 2024 pool money.

Yeah is just the right to spend not actual $$

Also some teams don't even participate or do very little in Intl signings.. I was shocked to see Brewers sign a kid for $1.5mil today.. literally many of their signings are of the $100k or less variety hustorically.. 💯 they won't come close to spending 60% of their pool this or any other yr..

Wonder if Salas will be in ST? Isn't there a rule that u have to be 17yrs (June 1st is his 17th birthdate) to participate in pro ball in the US side..? Does ST count? I think AZ complex is ok but not 100%.. or even sure this is more of an unspoken rule vs actual..

Apperantely today 1/15 is the 1st day Intl $$ can be traded.. (I am assuming there is a deadline or perhaps this is for next Jan class or this one?) The article ends with this..

Looking at the 2022 actual spending by team (not sure the source is reliable) but clearly a lot of teams don’t spend even close to the max. So, logically there should be a good base of teams to offer a player to for pool money.

The quick look reflected current contenders and non-contenders so in theory potential trade chips could be a ML short term asset (eg Crismatt) to a contender or more prospect type with control to a non-contender (eg Kerr).

Padres have to drop a 40 man type to add Cruz and will have to drop another in April to add Tatis and any “player return” for the likes of Crismatt, Kerr and the return would be small, if anything.

Interesting on how Preller will play this.

Any news on other Intl signings with our limited money left?

Henry, thank you for posting the names of our Padres intl signings! Unfortunately I get nothing when I Google any of the names on our list outside of Salas. Has anyone found any info or scouting reports on any of these guys? It's like I just got my Christmas present, opened it up, and still have no idea what it is! Frustrating!
