7 Padre prospects assigned to the AZ Fall League ... some surprises:
Pitchers:
Contreras .... Guerrero .... Jacob .... Lincoln
Except for Jacob all are recovering from major injury ... Lincoln as not pitched in a game since 2019. Might be a clue that Guerrero is under consideration for a 40 man slot since he is Rule 5 eligible.
Hitters:
Merrill ... Mears ...Cedeno
All make sense and are Top 30 prospects but A ball types, so probably stretch assignment.

My understanding is that Guerrero can elect to be a free agent in November, having played since 2015, so it becomes important to see if he can harness his control to grab a 40 man roster spot before then. Contreras finished strong, so it may be whether the experience in the AFL will keep him on the 40-man or whether they need that spot for a more deserving candidate.
Moises Lugo has done well this year and has been impressive in limited action in the PCL - he is Rule 5 eligible so he could be a surprise add to the 40 man if they don't think he'll make it through Rule 5.

Lack of key hits/situational hitting and bullpen meltdown caused the Missions to lose the first game of their playoffs. Will need to put it all together in San Antonio on Thursday if they want to continue their season.

Groome 8 IP 5 SOs only 2 Runs allowed..so far tonight... he is dealing and putting himself in the Convo for #5 SP in 2023

I'm guessing Merrill starts at Ft Wayne next year and moves to San Antonio during the season if the bat continues to excel?

How is Wyatt Hoffmans' arm?
If he continues to struggle offensively do we try to convert him like was done with Dad.
