Doersching with another 2 HRs but don't overlook what just turned 18 year old Samuel Zavala is doing after only playing 10 games in the ACL because of injury.  Zavala had two doubles and another HR today with a 905 OPs after 17 games with Lake Elsinore.

With so many players traded and upcoming free agents and rule 5 eligible players in the Padres' minor league system, there is going to be a lot of upward mobility.  Doersching and Zavala are certainly two to watch.

Yeah Salinas has struggled like a young teen is expected at LE ..But Zavala CF is seriously impressing the hell out of me.. he is almost 2 yrs younger than Wood was and his numbers are right there with his...at LE.. Playing CF and having the athletic pedigree to stick there (mix views on Wood or Hassell to do that while they were here) might prove to be another AJP find..

  1. Doersching has 7 HRs in his 1st 37 Pro AB's... OPS 1.551 at LE... Literally a Man amongst boys...

With the ACL shutting down on Tuesday ... any chance a few of the ACL players get moved up to LE for the last three weeks?

The other 1B (5th rder) name escapes me but sounds italian.. he has been murdering the ball in ACL.. as has the other OF signing (Intl)..*Zavala class... My brain is blanking.. there is a few baby arms I'd like to see up to LE but don't know what their workload and path look like from an org philosophy.. I feel like Doersching can be pushed up a little.. maybe give him another week at LE and if he continues to rake like this ..then A ball is not doing much for him..sort of a cup of coffee at A+ ..Merrill is young so he can start at Ft Wayne in 23.. had he not been injured then yeah 1/2 a season at the Ft would have been appropriate but starting 23 at A+ seems the right move for Merrill.. Griffin D.. older so push him up

As for ACL promotions to Lake Elsinore or elsewhere, I guess it depends upon whether roster limitations are still in effect for those last 3 weeks.  I can see virtually all the rehabbing players being placed with their teams or assigned to a playoff team (W Castillo, Guerrero, Thomas, Loewen and Homza - don't think J Garcia or Walter are ready) and several of the 2022 draftees - although only Martorella is the only one  batting over .250.  Converted INF Justin Lopez could be a surprise add along with Juan Murillo.

Martorella, Pauley, Marsee, Guerrero, Loewen and Murphy all moved up to Lake Elsinore.  Josttin Diaz surprisingly promoted to Ft Wayne.  Seems like some cuts should be announced soon.

Or maybe just some IL moves ... or maybe just some "inactive" moves.

Guerrero and Loewen were with the ACL on "rehab" ... so maybe they don't count against the roster ... or they just maybe needed a place to keep throwing after ACL shuts.

I guess with the ACL down ... the full season teams still need some "extra bodies" around staying active in-case of injuries requiring replacements.

Question: as the ACL shuts down ... are all the players sent home now and only "selected" players return for the fall instructs or does the organization maintain a full (or almost) full squad until the fall instructs?

It looks like both Guerrero and Loewen were taken off rehab status and reassigned to Lake Elsinore.  If that is the case and roster limits still exist, then I currently have Lake Elsinore with 36 active players, which is 6 over the maximum allowed.  Since today is a day off for LE, maybe we'll see status changes tomorrow on the LE roster.  I'm thinking Padres would like to see Lake Elsinore win the California League title; if so, expect Merrill and Doersching (the most advanced of the position players) to finish out season there before heading to instructs.  I believe instructs will only be for selected players with most of the players in the minor leagues sent home.  Should be an interesting off-season - lots of  movement expected.

Ft Wayne easy call.. AA San Antonio???

I'd still incite him to ST with the MLB club I've heard he has an infectious personality as well.. let him play in a handful of games like Hassell did this last Spring and then assign him accordingly.. I know it's small sample size ..but say he has a great fall learning and performing ..then comes back for ST and does well there.. I see no reason not to challenge him early at AA.. or Ft Wayne to start and a quick promotion if he mashes like this early and often
