Zavala, Salinas and Alarcon just listed on LE roster.  Guessing some current LE players are on the move to FtW.  Bender also off the ACL roster.

Luis, Fabian, and Illiraza promoted to FW

Bender to LE

Love your enthusiasm but if Doersching really has a "Paul G" stroke, he would have been drafted a lot higher than #8, especially as a 4th year senior.  But let's enjoy him while we can and if he is at LE, I'll be driving up there soon to see a great team and especially Jackson Merrill.

5th yr senior one ++++80 tool Power.. 23 yr old seniors usually don't go anywhere near the 1st 5 rds.. if he were a Soph coming out his 2nd yr and 21 with his resume probably goes 2nd or 3rd rd

Just for meaningless reference ... Goldschmidt was drafted ... YES ... in the 8th round out of smaller Texas State? Doersching was drafted in the 8th round out of Oklahoma State ( 1 year) after a career at a smaller Northern Kentucky.

We have a match ... sort of. Something to dream on but not totally dismiss.

Any insight on what the Padres are doing with Campusano now?

Saw in the transactions that he has just been “reassigned to the minor leagues” … he was on the EP roster and that description usually suggests a player going to AZ to work on “something”. Not an IL call.

Making links … could this be connected to the trade for another catcher yesterday … Gallagher.

—————

Conversion to (or develop versatility for) 1B / OF to increase his value to the 2023 Padres given the FA to be.

They don't really seem to believe in him as a catcher. If they still believe in the bat trying him out at 1B would make sense. It might cost 15m plus to bring back Bell or sign someone of similar quality. If Campy could handle it and produce at the minimum it would free up a lot of cash to be reallocated elsewhere.

Maybe his value cones in the offseason in a swap for someone's To b5ish SP prospect at AA/AAA to continue to bridge the gap (provide depth to our SDP rotation) Wethers/Khner/Groome and hopefully Lawson backing up 1-5 (if not claiming #5..or serving as a Nick Martinez in 2023..

That is what I was thinking ... in 2023 having Campusano as a 1B/DH at league minimum makes it easier to fill the other slots with a better pieces. So, he is important if he is productive to help build a more compete team. His bat was always his calling card.

Melvin likes a defensive oriented catcher ... Campusano has never been view that way.

Mid-season Padres moved his designation in EP from C to DH (no clear reason)

Yesterday. dealt for a veteran fringe catcher for EP (defensive type) while they have Sullivan and Campusano there.

Immediately, Campusano is designated "reassigned to the minor leagues"

Seems to some underlying plan by the development people.

Or maybe Preller discovered that other teams are not all that interested in Campusano as a prime prospect .. fair guess his name came up in trade discussions. IF Preller thinks his offense is still projectable ... but other teams are not valuing that ... he needs to alter Campusano's path to focus on the hitting development. Makes sense the DH/1B/ maybe corner OF better to accomplish that.

Or maybe ... who knows ... but Campusano is the the EP line-up as DH and hit a HR.

Salinas and Zavala showed that they are not quite ready for Low A but I applaud the Padres for challenging them.  They have to learn what it takes to be a consistent hitter day after day and they should get plenty of opportunities at Lake Elsinore.

Yeah, the obvious move seems to be Campy to 1B or maybe LF to find his way on the roster. DH option clearly has to be in the mix as his best shot, pending Wil and Bell this winter.
