Minor League Discussion

I must have missed some roster rule changes in the minors for 2022. Any insight on why SA, FW, LE, ACL all are carrying 15 active pitchers BUT EP has 20 listed as active (after the call-up of Lamet) and an active roster at 32?

Is there an "unlisted" category of inactive for the game but technically active. The IL (which has three pitchers on it) is clearly different.

???? No idea...did rosters get bigger cause of minor league team reduction a few seasons ago? I have no idea

My latest information still had a max of 28 active players at AAA and AA with 30 max at high and low A.  Maybe they loosened it up to give the option of 180 players no matter where they are in the system, excluding the DSL.  Anyway, the draft will eliminate many of these quick look-see adds as most teams will add 15-20 plus some coming back from injury.

I know a moving target but I have SA (27), FW (28), LE (29) … so arguably 4 “under” while EP at 32 … so 4 “over”. Maybe some flexibility if all the levels “net” out?

Clearly in the next two weeks a lot of housecleaning with the draft and non-drafted FA added to the stateside total. Likely all the new guys go to the ACL with some ACL players released or back to DSL … I guess some IL types released. Probably only about 15-20 moves needed with some new player not being activated yet.

Not sure if any of the remaining ACL players are ticketed to move up to LE forcing a release there or a bump up to FW.

I'm expecting a pitcher-heavy draft and those are the probable releases from the ACL roster.  Susana probably won't go up until the season ends in late August; Chacon could be another.  More than likely several players will be "returned" to higher levels - Vizcarra and Mears, and possibly Alarcon and Bender (who didn't make the LE roster) , unless both are released to clear some space out for position player draftees.  It is possible there will be some shuffling in the ranks if any trades occur since Preller often trades multiple players for a lesser number.

With the Dominican Summer League season half over, is there anything worthwhile happening there?  Padres' team has a winning record mainly on the strength of their starting pitchers.  Leija already was cited for his outstandiing start but also getting strong performances from Chirinos, Rosario, Moreno and Nava before he got injured.  Sojo, the oldest player on the team at 21, has been outstanding in relief so could move up to the ACL soon.  Braian Salazar was a top signee but has attempted only one start that was rained out.  On the position player side, Camou, Sanabria and Munoz were impressive early and Carillo and A. Perez have started to come on.  Still waiting for Yendry Rojas to blossom and he and the two catchers, Giron and Linares, could add some punch to this line-up that likely is going to get better as the season progresses.  Nice job done by the coaching staff in the last couple of years in the DSL.  It had been pretty dismal before 2020.

So happy to see Tirso Ornelas tapping into his in game power.. Dude can be a pretty special player if he puts it all together...sweet sweet swing

Many guys come in and hit well in the lower levels just to fade as they move up

Ornelas is the opposite came in quite raw and has worked hard at getting better.. and as he goes up the system his game keeps getting better and better.

There is no way Ruiz is our 28th prospect any longer......obviously.

He was 14th in 2019 and has done nothing but improved this year.. I have him #5.. only Hassell/Wood/Campy and Merrill ahead

Anyone know what is going on with Schlotens in EP?

He may not be a top prospect but he started the season quite well as a SP but his usage has gone from 23.2 innings in April then progress downward 17.2 (May), 11.0 (Jun), nad so far in July a low 3.0. More usage as a RP add less as a SP but even as a RP long gaps between appearances. Usage has been regular … so does not seem to be an injury issue.
