Quote from Brian Connelly on May 13, 2021, 10:04 amNice to see Grant Little activated. 2nd round Comp balance pick hopefully can live up to draft status & have a good season.
And although the circumstances suck, it's good to know teams CAN move players between affiliates relatively quickly. 3 guys from San Antonio to El Paso. Geographically close, but AAA following MLB health/safety protocols. But also 1 guy so far -- more likely to follow-- from Ft. Wayne to San Antonio; major travel in just a day or so.
Finally, went through each team's listed Roster, and found a lot of "missing" guys on IL's of the affiliates. The only real "MIA" full season player now is: Allen Cordoba. Minor League Baseball site shows him Assigned to San Antonio February 12th, but not on their or any other affiliate roster. If he were injured, seems like he would be so something else? Visa issue? Anyone know anything? Sure could use him in the upper level OF somewhere right now!

Quote from fenn68 on May 16, 2021, 9:52 amExcept for MadFriars .... minor league coverage by the SD media has basically become a non-reportable event. I see multiple factors:
1. The Padres are pretty tight with pushing out info (either ML or MiL)
2. COVID has probably curtailed the more casual contacts (and exchange of info)
3. The SD media seems to now be filled with individuals that have little interest in following the minor leagues (except for the couple of big names ... Gore / Abrams). Not just not follow but almost jovial about not knowing anything about the call-up, etc. If they are not interested ... they are not asking the Padres about the status of anyone.
Not expecting “experts” in the players in the minors but expect an awareness and the ability to address notable events / issues in a timely manner. It is all part of the Padres “organization”.

Quote from Brian Connelly on May 17, 2021, 10:31 amWith 2x through rotations, SP depth at the upper levels looks thin. But situation may improve as guys continue to rehab & strectch out. It's interesting to see how Pads Affiliates are handling SP so far:
- El Paso - Only have 4 SP: Gore, Kennedy, Camarena, Scholtens. Nick Ramirez has nominally started (opened) the 5th games, with Evan Miller & Parker Markel going long (3, 2 IP respectively) yesterday. EP might use Crismatt as a 5th SP, but Padres may want him to be "always available"; making RP with a pitch count ceiling more likely. Jordan Humphreys, a SP on 40-man roster is on the 7-day IL.
- San Antonio - 5 "true" SP: Knehr, O. Hernandez, Leasher, A. Martinez, & Boushley. Jerry Keel acting as a 6th/long man. But also have post TJ former SP's: Pedro Avila & Tom Cosgrove pitching out of pen. In 4 outings each, Cosgrove has not gone > 1 IP, but Avila did last time out. Also have Reggie Lawson now 14 months post TJ; likely he follows Avila path maybe in second half of season
- Ft. Wayne - Hybrid model: 8 "SP": Collegians Elliott & Matt Waldron only 'true' SP. Other 3 spots being shared/piggybacked by: E. Martinez, Mosser, M. Lugo, Minjarez, Komar, & Bencomo. Anderson Espinoza & Mason Feole building up slowly similar to Avila, but only 1 outing each so far. Ft Wayne does have 4 "RP" on their 7-day IL
- Lake Elsinore-Piggyback model: 9-10 "SP": Some combo of : L. Thomas, Thwaits, Guarte, G. Moreales, Vela, M. Rondon, Matos, J. Lugo, R. Perez & maybe others are piggybacking. Lake Elsinore has 3 "RP" on their 7-day IL

They were on my “watch list” coming out of ST.
Elliott primarily because he was invited to the alternate site .. the only one out of the low minors /unranked prospect list. Padres had to see something none of us had. If it were not for that I would be writing him off as a college type with command and a breaking ball that kills the kids in low A and then, in turn, gets killed in AA.
I like Podrosky ... but similar to Elliott ... skeptical of an under size older college type who may hit in A ball but gets eaten up in the upper levels. Padres have had a number of those over the years.
I am going to be pulling for both as the exceptions to the past. Exceptions do happen.
IF Podorsky sticks in AAA this year (and continues to perform) .... I could see him making a real run as a reserve OF in 2022 ... especially if teams return to 13 position players on the 26 man and post Pham (and maybe Profar) with Mateo not locking down a slot. Not a lot of other system options for 2022. Contact hitter with speed fits the current Padres persona. No power and seems to be a LF (maybe arm or just defense).
Would expect a mid-season move to AA by Elliott ... a better test for him. Maybe a 90 MPH FB but with command. Long shot as a ML starter ... but middle inning LHRP who can throw strikes and be effective? Melancon is doing fine as a closer with a low 90‘s FB and command ... so maybe everyone does not have to be a mid to upper 90s guy with not command.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 17, 2021, 1:52 pmSo the guy I was really touting at the end of 2019,Omar Cruz, who was traded in the Musgrove deal, had TEN strikeouts in his last outing...in FOUR innings.
Had a rough first start but he's a guy I hated to lose and will continue to keep an eye on.
Does anyone have "the list" of all the prospects we traded this past offseason?
If so......can you post it in this thread?
Not to nitpick AJ in these deals but I'm just interested in seeing how some of these guys are doing.
I have always said we need to trade prospects for known major league starters so I'm not going to now complain if any become stars...just like to keep up.
BTW....I see Xavier Edwards has yet to play....not sure why......anyone know is he hurt?

I'm working on the WAY too big self inflicted project of "Consensus" prospect rankings inclusive of these guys out AND guys in (mostly Ha-Seong Kim). These guys spots are set by my weird methods now. 8 of our top 22 prospects in probably the # 3 system in MLB after last season were traded out; 10 "ranked" prospects total plus 1 Not ranked prospect PLUS 3 MLB players... for 3 years of Darvish AAV < 20 MM, 3 years of Snell AAV @ 13 MM, & 2 years of Musgrove @ EST 7 MM AAV. Entering 2021 season Consensus after trades was we were still about the #6-7 system in MLB; top heavy with Top 100 MLB prospects, but system depth now just "above average" vs "elite (#1 in MLB entering 2020).
- #3 Luis Patino SP (Rays) (#15 consensus MLB)
- #9 Hudson Head CF (Pirates) (Top 100 -200 MLB)
- #10 Cole Wilcox SP (Rays) (Top 100-200 MLB)
- #12 Blake Hunt C (Rays) (Top 200-300 MLB)
- #15 Reginald Preciado SS (Cubs)
- #19 Owen Caissie OF (Cubs)
- #21 Ismael Mena CF (Cubs)
- #22 Yeison Santana SS (Cubs)
- #38 Omar Cruz SP (Pirates)
- #45 David Bednar RP (Pirates)
- NR Drake Fellows SP (Pirates)
Plus:
- 4 yrs control: Francisco Meija C @ pre-arb $ (Rays)
- 1 yr control: Zach Davies SP @ 8.5 MM+ (Cubs)
- 4 yrs control: Joey Lucchessi SP @ pre-arb $ (Pirates; subsequently traded to Mets)
