LHH OPTIONS FOR 2020

The problem is that we need a left-handed centerfielder. Most centerfielders trade offense for defense so a big hitting centerfielder is a much bigger ask.

Injuries to Jankowski in Spring training and Cordero right after season started ruined any semblance of balance in the 2019 line-up.  Getting either one healthy will help the dominant RHH we have in the OF and probably will have in 2020.  Agree that Naylor is another DH playing OF, but only in his second year in the OF and now knows that he can't lug around his 250+ pound body and be an effective major league fielder; he is, if given a chance probably the best overall hitter of the three.  I would stand pat and wait for the young LHHs that are coming up - Trammell and Abrams.  I know Abrams is at shortstop but his quickest way to Petco is in CF and, after an off-season of strength training and physical maturity, he is going to be a monster.  I think he'll blow thru lo and hi A next year and be ready for a Tatis-like promotion by age 20 IN CF!  Trammell speed and overall game will play well in LF.  Both probably not ready for 2020 but certainly possibly in 2021.  For that reason, trade those other chips in the system for a top of the order pitcher to lead a potentially lethal pitching staff in the years ahead - Gore, Paddock, Lamet & Patino.

IF they could come up with a stud LHH OF ... don’t care the position LF-CF-RF since none of the incumbents are are so good to withstand getting beat out. Add the stud bat and then address the remaining two spots even if just sorting through the incumbents. That one stud LHH bat in the middle of the line-up changes how the entire line-up sets-up.

Unfortunately, don’t see anyone on the market that fits that profile. Some “nice” pieces but not elite, key players. Not sure how the Padres address the smaller incremental improvements given that reality ... but expect 2020 to contain a lot of mix and match OF strategies.

We will have to part with a top of the line prospect like Gore and probably more to get a top of the line bat. I have no problem with that if they sign Cole. Ownership just has to make that incredibly hard decision.

Meet your left handed 32yr old ++ defense and Speed with really good OBP

Japanese FA Shogo Akiyama... No posting needed he is FA

.307/.395/.477. .872 OPS in JPN this yr

I could definitely go for him. Does AJ read this?

Comforto or Nimmo from Mets might be available especially since Cespedes will be back...

Also look for a packaged type deal from Bosox ..where they shed Payroll ...Price or Eovaldi + Benintendi for Myers ++++ I think in such a deal we could lead with guys like Q + Lauer + Baez and/or  Lucchesi as new Bosox GM tries to navigate the Sox lanndscape in an effort to shed Payroll to go get a deal with Mookie done..

If Boston wants to shed payroll then Myers is the last thing they would want. Besides which Benintendi is cheap and exactly the kind of guy they need. Our team is not going to be taking on useless payroll. I would like Nimmo but the Mets don't need starters, they need relief help which we cannot afford to give them.

You don't trade Gore for anything other than a Mike Trout, and how do we pay for that.

I would trade Gore, Trammell, Margot, any of the 4 Catchers on roster, but they have to take Myers too.   Net increase of "only" 16 MM / yr next 3 yrs with + Trout - Myers.  Angels fans would probably die, but man they're in no man's land.  Both they & Trout would at least have to think about it.

If that is the case we can give up on trades as a route to upgrade. I don't want to trade Gore either. I am just saying we cannot get a high quality bat for our castoffs and secondary prospects. If we give crap we will get crap back.
