I am invoking a variation of the Myers' conundrum ...

Considering the Padres are #1 in MLB OPS ...

do you really want to move Cronenworth out of the #5-6-7 slot into a top of the order role (where he has not been) ... and at that point pitchers will begin to pitch him differently and likely he will be asked to change his approach with the big bats behind him?

is the risk of actually hurting Cronenworth's production greater than the potential increase in offense for the top of the order?

Another case of moving a player because you can turning into a bad idea? Plus he is a rookie and this is a playoff push ... better be sure such a move will work.

Good thoughts for sure. It would depend on the make up of Cronenworth, can he handle it? My initial reaction is yes. So I dont think it would mess things up too much.

However, since we are at the top of almost every offensive stat ( who would have ever thought that??) maybe for the balance of the year it would be best to leave well enough alone??

Well my point about moving Cronenworth was based on getting him enough PA's to qualify...and I was basing that off of AB's...which was wrong.

So I have no issue leaving him where he is since it's working and he will get his plate appearances.

Then we just got into a conversation about line-up construction.

We are in a situation right now where pretty much every hitter is having success so you could really put them in any order whatsoever and we could still win games. But i also don't think moving a guy in the order makes a big difference if he's successful.

It will make a difference in the number of AB's he gets...and if you put a great hitter in front of a poor hitter you could hurt his chances of getting good pitches to hit...but again, with almost no holes in this lineup I don't think it makes that much of a difference.

These are the best hitters in the world....most would hit about the same leading off...or hitting 9th.

MLB NL Rookie of the Month for August

Tatis NL the Player of the Month

This is good!

Not looking as though any Rookie in the NL is close to beating out Cronenworth as NL Rookie of the Year.

Consider he is playing on the #1 OPS team in MLB ... for the Padres:

#1 in 2B (11)

#1 in 3B (3)

#1 in BA (.336)

#2 in OBP (.398) ... Tatis #1

#2 in OPS (.969) ... Tatis #1

That looks like a pretty good middle INF since the both play very good defense. At least another 4 years (hopefully more).

I saw on a couple of websites, that Dustin May is ranked 1st as a candidate for ROY, any of you have any info on that BS?

I think he's still 1 PA (0.2, actually) short of qualifying (unless he's been HBP'd?) ... so ... if he gets 4 PAs tomorrow, he's in 🙂

The betting line I looked at has Cronenworth the odds on favorite at -120 ..... May is 2nd at +175 ... this was as of Sep 3rd.

Somewhere in August the betting line switched to Cronenworth.

Actually, he already quailifies, he is right at the mark, with 131 PA, and the Padres have played 42 games X 3.1=130. 2, you can see him now in 6th place with a. 336 Avg, with Turner leading

I have been following all of MLB despite all of the weird changes they have made to try to get some semblance of a season in and the one sure fire thing that has just jumped out is the fact that Jake Cronenworth has been just rock solid nails since he got moved to second base for the Padres. He started out filling in for Hosmer at the start of the year when Hos has some sort of stomach issue and he was hitting so well they had to find a home for him in the everyday lineup so he settled in at second base which was a easy move because his natural position is shortstop and all he has done is make himself a very dangerous batter in the batting order that has Grisham, Tatis Jr, Machado, Hosmer, Meyers and Cronenworth not followed by Nola, Profar and whoever the DH is that day. This is a dangerous Batting order that can hurt you anywhere and in any inning....we have all seen that to be true.

Dustin May gets all the Dodger hype but he only plays once every 5 days or so and he has not been Verlander, Strasburg or Sherzier shut down tough...the Padres got to him if I remember correctly and Cronenworth took him out of the yard.

For a player that was a added piece to the Renfroe for Pham trade he sure looks like AJ Preller stole him from Tampa Bay...not a doubt in my mind Jake is National League Rookie of the Year hands down....he has not only added some thunder to a very good Padre batting order he has played a very solid second base and has solidified his hold on that position going forward....one less hole the padres have to fill.....just a very pleasant addition to this years Padres Line up....don't move him, don't play games with him...just let him see his name in the lineup everyday and enjoy the show....this moment is not to big for him and he is only going to get better
