Jake Cronenworth

I wish Tingler would move Jake up in the lineup so he can get the AB's to qualify for the batting title!

He needs a minimum of 3.7 per game the rest of the way.

That's if he doesn't take any days off.

It's gonna be close if the keep hitting him 7th in the lineup.

He got 18 PAs in the 4 games at Colorado ... so that gained him 5 PAs ... just needs 3 more (he's at 112 ... Padres have played 37 games so 37*3.1 = 115) ... he'll get there this week 🙂

Weird?

Looking at CBS Sportsline it has him at 101 AB's?

MLB.com also shows 101.

I think he needs more than he can get this week.....

60 games at 3.1 ab's is 186 total.

I show him at 101 so he needs 85 in 23 games.

So I'm seeing he needs 3.7 per game the rest of the way "if" he doesn't miss a game.

Hang on....I'm an idiot.

It's plate appearances not AB's.

Sorry...brain cramp!

Lol

Whole lineup may get more AB's with the recent additions lengthening it...

Cronenworth to me looks like the 2nd coming of Mark Loretta as a prototype #2.  But can't move an MVP candidate out of there!

You can if you move Tatis to 3rd.

Probably where he should be anyway.

Best OBP in #1.

Best contact hitter in #2

Best overall hitter #3

Best run producer #4

2nd best run producer #5

Best remaining run producer #6

Best hitter remaining #7

Worst hitter #8

Best remaining OBP guy #9.

This is how I see the lineup positions with the DH.

Was a bit different with the pitcher hitting.

I agree with your assessment, and especially with the new bullpen rule, I really like alternating LH/RH as well.

I think that this season, with the way all are performing, we can really balance our line up.

1. Grisham, 2. Cronenworth, 3. Tatis, 4. Hosmer, 5. Machado, 6. Moreland, 7. Myers, 8. Profar, 9. Nola.

Other than two lefties at the top. That's a really balanced line up.

I am invoking a variation of the Myers' conundrum ...

Considering the Padres are #1 in MLB OPS ...

do you really want to move Cronenworth out of the #5-6-7 slot into a top of the order role (where he has not been) ... and at that point pitchers will begin to pitch him differently and likely he will be asked to change his approach with the big bats behind him?

is the risk of actually hurting Cronenworth's production greater than the potential increase in offense for the top of the order?

Another case of moving a player because you can turning into a bad idea? Plus he is a rookie and this is a playoff push ... better be sure such a move will work.

I say,

Tatis (R)

Cronenworth (L)

Machado (R)

Hosmer (L)

Myers (R)

Moreland (L)

Nola (R)

Grisham (L)

Profar (S)
