Jake Cronenworth
Quote from David Jay on February 26, 2020, 9:29 amChatted with him in the clubhouse. He's in a really good spot and seems to generally have a level of relaxation and comfort as a pitcher that he never did as a batter. Even going back to the big league debut when he got shelled, he was able to come back the next outing and throw effectively. That sort of beating offensively would have, I think, crushed him for weeks.
FTR, I'm not sure he ever had a diagnosis of depression.

That's very cool. Thank you.

2. Jake Cronenworth, INF, Padres (No. 18)
“Rake” Cronenworth has been an unexpected breakout star early this season and arguably is the running favorite in the NL Rookie of the Year race. He had another big week for the Padres, tallying hits in all seven games en route to a .423/.500/.692 line and 7-0 team record in that span.

Think Arias will get 10-12 AB in ST. Profar working only at 2B leaves "only" Tatis coming off injury, J.C., & Owen Miller as "real" SS... ...all the other non-roster INF in camp are more 2B/3B types. Coverage @ SS (by "start of ST" standards) relatively light.
Supposedly Javy Guerra can play SS at a GG type of level. Sure he cannot hit, but he can be all that is needed in an emergency.
Speaking of Javy...how is he doing? Has he found something to deal with his depression? I ask because I'm on Prozac currently. But there are lots of things one might try.
What’s up Fred?
Great to hear from you!

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 29, 2020, 8:45 pmWhy is Jake not listed in the League Leaders for Avg and OPS etc?
He has 89 AB’s which is 1 more than Soto and 18 more than Goldschmidt but they’re listed?

To qualify a player needs 3.1 PA times the number of games his team has played. SD just has played more games than either STL or WASH which works against Cronenworth ... think he is very close to being “qualified” and should get there (if he continues to play every day) later this week.
Didn’t help that he did not get regular playing time until Hosmer got ill .... so playing a bit of catch-up.

Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 6:22 amJust confusing now as the other teams play double headers to catch-up in games played.
Might get a bit more controversial if at the end of the season the winner of the batting title (maybe by .001) is on a team that played 5 less games than the second place finisher and just barely qualified.

Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 3:22 pmWell, based on my minimalistic review, IF Cronenworth qualified (and only a couple PA away) he would have the #1 batting average in MLB at .361 ... just ahead of Soto (WASH) at .360.
Maybe we should dream on NL Rookie of the Year and the NL Batting Title?

Quote from LynchMob on August 30, 2020, 7:15 pmPadres are now 21-15 ... so 36 games ... 36x3.1 = 111.6 ... so a Padre needs 112 PAs to qualify ... Jake had 102 going into today's game ... so, by my calc, he's still a few shy ...
