Arrieta to 10 day IL

Pomeranz to 60 day IL

Profar returns from COVID IL (did not count on the 40 man and his spot apparently was used for Arrieta but now that he returns the Pomeranz move was necessary).

From today's DFR ...

Lamet, restarting his rehab assignment after an infection required surgery, hit the first batter he faced. The power right-hander then settled down to retire the side in order, reaching 98 mph with his fastball. A return to San Diego may be imminent for “El Flaco,” who was close to rejoining the big-league club earlier this month before his setback.

Luis Campusano‘s absence from the lineup continues ...

RHP Javy Guerra (right UCL sprain)
Expected return: 2022
Elbow trouble has sidelined Guerra since March, but he began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex league on Sept. 10. Guerra pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of strikeouts. It seems unlikely Guerra pitches for the Padres this season, but his return to the mound is a positive sign for the one-time shortstop who was converted into a hard-throwing reliever before the 2019 season. (Last updated: Sept. 10)

Sept. 21: Javy Guerra reinstated from the 60-day IL
Guerra hadn’t pitched this season as he battled elbow trouble stemming from a UCL sprain. But the hard-throwing right-hander pitched three scoreless, hitless rehab outings, before his callup on Tuesday. Guerra should provide a boost to a weary Padres relief corps.

INJURY UPDATES

LHP Drew Pomeranz (flexor tendon surgery)
Expected return: Late April
Last August, Pomeranz's season came to an early end when he underwent surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his pitching arm. He's hopeful that the surgery will permanently fix an issue he says he's been dealing with for the past five seasons. Right now, Pomeranz is playing catch regularly from about 75 feet. But Padres manager Bob Melvin noted that Pomeranz's spring progression would take place slower than some of his other relievers, and it's unclear when he'll begin facing hitters. As such, it's likely Pomeranz opens the season on the injured list. -- AJ Cassavell (Last updated: March 17)

LHP Adrian Morejon (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: Midseason
Even after he was placed on the 60-day IL, the Padres remain optimistic that Morejon will play a key role in their pitching plans this season. The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2021, but he's throwing regular bullpen sessions in Spring Training. A one-time top prospect, Morejon has only appeared in 16 games in the big leagues since his 2019 debut. -- AJ Cassavell (Last updated: March 17)

SS Fernando Tatis Jr. (fractured left wrist)
Expected return: June
Tatis underwent surgery to address a fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist on March 16, an operation that requires a recovery period of "up to three months," according to Padres president of baseball operations A.J. Preller. Tatis sustained the fracture early in the offseason, but mostly felt OK until he began ramping up for the season. The severity of the injury only became clear during his physical upon his arrival for Spring Training. -- AJ Cassavell (Last updated: March 16)

Fangraphs Roster Resource Closer Depth Chart (https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/closer-depth-chart) says that Luis Garcia has a 98 mph fastball and a 98 mph slider ... but is projected to start the season on the IL ...

What do you know about that?

I like "98" ...

EDIT: I found this note: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/padres-luis-garcia-expected-to-begin-season-on-il/

Tatis was with the club for its season-opening series in Arizona and said he expects to resume swinging in approximately three weeks.

From today's DFR ...

Note: Baseball America’s Kyle Glaser reported that Storm outfielder James Wood is dealing with a hand injury before the contest, but noted that his absence is likely precautionary at this point. Per a Padres official, Wood should return “sooner than later” to the Lake Elsinore lineup.

From today's DFR ...

  • Outfielder James Wood missed his sixth straight game with a wrist issue. As of now, there is no update on his status. Team officials were not made available for comment.
