Quote from Randy Manese on May 26, 2023, 9:16 amIn David Jay's article this morning, Snelling indicates that his change-up and slider are both works in progress and he stills has a ways to go. He also has pitched 31.2 innings this year, so he could be close to the half-way mark of how many IP the Padres are going to allow for a young arm. For these reasons, even though his stat line and his early success in Low A is extremely promising, probably keep him in LE all year possibly stretching his outings over the last few months so he possibly gets some playoff experience if the team gets there. Those extra days off increased his velocity a couple of ticks so I'm sure the Padres noticed the difference extra rest made for the young hurler.

Quote from fenn68 on May 26, 2023, 9:30 amAlso, since this his first professional season and some of his pitches are works in progress probably don’t want to change pitching coaches during this part of his development.
He pitched last year in HS for 61 innings … so conceivably could go maybe up to 90 IF his pitch count / workload remains efficient. Maybe a “token” FW start or two in SEPT.

I dont think he lasts 2 full seasons in the minors.. to be 💯
Please enjoy the sweet swing of Padres catcher Ethan Salas at 500 FPS. Former @PGSelectFest participant makes it look easy, especially for a 16 year old. This was a 3 run Home Run for Salas to RCF. @PG_Scouting @padres @JBrownPG pic.twitter.com/z5GWDFF2Qz

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 9, 2023, 5:59 amIt is nice to see so many of our young arms doing well....just wish they were a little closer.
But then again, our 1-4 our doing just fine.

Snelling’s work is challenging the reluctance to move him up a level. It will take a lot of restraint by the Padres development folks.
Consider he is only 19 in his first season and had 9 starts (41.2 innings) and all have been not only effective but “easy”. ERA 1.30 / WHIP 1.01. Averaging 15 pitches per inning while going a “controlled” 5 innings per game. Only 2 HR yielded.
The way they are handling his workload (if he continues his effectiveness) he should make it through the rest of the season with 5 inning starts and come in around 100 innings.
Beginning to think a bump to FW may come a bit sooner (mid-July) to give him the challenge with maybe 10 A+ starts. Snelling is clearly earning a fast rise into the MLB Top 100 based on production coupled with being a high draft pick.

Snelling has already shown the Padres everything they had hoped to see from him and more. While he should move quickly I am more excited about Mazur. Mazur has even more dominant numbers this year than Snelling, is pitching a level higher, is built up for more innings and has far more experience. If he keeps pitching like he has been he will almost certainly get to AA in this, his first year. From there he could conceivably make it to San Diego by the end of 2024. It's a dream, but it's possible.

Quote from fenn68 on June 20, 2023, 3:35 amSnelling is looking like a steal at pick #39 (Padres Comp Pick) in last year’s draft. Combine him with Lesko (at #15) and Mazur (at #53) and the top of the draft is looking strong.
