Quote from Henry Silvestre on March 3, 2023, 7:45 amQuote from Jeremy Hill on March 2, 2023, 9:55 pmThe hype is already out of control with Salas. I hope he can tune out all the noise. The burden of expectations can be a heavy one. I remember when Ben Davis was supposed to be the next big thing coming out of highschool. That's a lot to put on a kid.
Salas has the pedigree and family to "enjoy" the journey vs the opposite.. on a serious question does he start at LE? Or higher? If he is this advanced, let him dictate his path.. having him break camp as the starting C in 2025 would be awesome!

Quote from Randy Manese on March 3, 2023, 10:22 amThree Hall of Famers debuted in the majors before age 18 - Foxx, Ott and Feller. That is unreal because while you have seen college players go straight to the majors there have been none in the modern era who have gone directly from signing as a high school age equivalent (16-18) to the majors. Most of the youngest players to debut were after WWII. Shocker - Joe Nuxhall pitched in the majors at 15!
As far as the youngest catcher, it was someone that some of us older guys might remember - Jim Pagliaroni! He debuted in 1955 at the age of 17 years and 248 days; however, he didn't come back to the big leagues to stay until the early 60's and last played in the major in 1969.
I also remember big Ben Davis - drafted #2 overall in 1995 - a switch hitting catcher with a rifle arm. He was 18 when drafted and did play for the Padres for several years before we traded him to Seattle. Never became the hitter everyone thought he would but was still very good defensively. Yes, give Salas a chance to grow up and mature. His path, however, looks extremely bright and you have to believe he has a burning desire to play with some of these Padres superstars he sees on the field in ST!

Quote from fenn68 on March 3, 2023, 11:14 amI know the hype on Salas is intoxicating but way to early to start pushing / expecting him in the ML picture in the next few years and, unfortunately, sets up wave of negative commentary if he is not an All-Star in 3 years. Not good for the kid and his development. Let us see him in games before putting him in the Hall of Fame.
IF he is all the hype suggests … up at age 20 (2026) with and outside chance at a 2025 call-up. Gives him 3 years in the minors to develop and mature physically. Some aligned with Nola’s FA.

Also when they advance etc...
Keep us all posted on "your" guy.

Quote from fenn68 on March 28, 2023, 3:23 pmMy guy was Lizarraga who is going to FW.
Also had a side note on a “under the radar” prospect … RP Chase Walter who was injured most of 2022. I guess well under the radar since he did not land on any roster … yet.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 7, 2023, 11:32 amMy guy was Albert Fabian who is on the Lake Elsinore roster. He got a couple of hits, including a 2 run HR on opening day! My other choice as a pitcher was Mazur, who starts tomorrow for Ft. Wayne at Western Michigan. Hopefully, the Tincaps will register their first win behind Mazur. He should be more accustomed to the 40 degree weather than either Iriarte or Lizarraga; hope he shows well.

They've only played 5 games so maybe he is up next or the following start??

Quote from Randy Manese on April 15, 2023, 12:35 amThere was a rainout on Thursday plus off days on previous Sunday and Monday. The Storm are also going with a 6 man rotation and since they are now 6-0, can't complain too much about that strategy. Snelling should be up to pitch on Saturday.
