Around the League...non Padres
Quote from Brian Connelly on September 3, 2020, 2:35 pmQuote from WindsorUK on September 3, 2020, 12:04 pmLooks like we swapped Franmil for Nola?
Think I'd rather have Reyes as our DH for the next decade.
Still, Nola is a MAJOR upgrade offensively from Hedges and will bridge the gap from now until Campusano.
Liking our chances.
There's no way to claim we didn't "lose" the Franmil Reyes for Trammell trade... but I don't regret it at all.
When we traded for him, no one knew who "Trent Grisham" was, or what "Covid" was. These 2 developments led to DH in the NL in 2020 & likely 2021, and the rest is history.
I agree (100% with hindsight) that I'd rather have Franmil over Nola... but I think we're going to LOVE Nola. The fact that he can play other positions & hit is huge. RH DH? Keep 3 C? He opens up all kinds of possibilities with his skillset, and is already getting rave reviews from P's & coaching staff.

Quote from Brian Connelly on September 9, 2020, 10:36 amNice to see Olivares, France, Torrens off to good starts.
The Grisham/Davies deal has to be by far the most lopsided trade in MLB this year. I knew Davies was > Lauer, but didn't expect anything close to what he AND Grisham have done.
This jumps out: last year's 2B & CF: 0 HR in 179 AB! This year's: counting 100% Grisham, 75% Cronenworth, 33% Profar...
approximately: 300+ AB 16-2B, 4-3B, 13 - HR ..... with WAY better OBP... the difference between contending & pretending...
The Indians active roster is literally 25% Padres including about half their Bullpen. Mejia is likely never going to turn the Hand/Cimber trade into a "win", but still some wildcard upside/value there. Obviously Trammell for F. Reyes(& L. Allen) really stings with DH now, but at least Trammell has been "Preller-ized" into Austin Nola+.
Will be interesting to see if edge of roster "rebounders": Yardley, Margevicius, and especially Maton can sustain their results, or if it's flash in the pan short season. Same might be true in reverse for Renfroe, Urias, others... but can't say I miss them. Our Offense STARTING WITH OBP speaks volumes... DO miss Margot right now though.

How much fun would they be having?

Quote from Randy Manese on September 9, 2020, 1:03 pmWould love to have Franmil back, that trade plus Tatis Jr. injury totally scuttled the second half of last year but that's not going to happen and I think it has been discussed on this thread or elsewhere why that made sense at the time. The same thing could be said about Mejia since basically all we had was Hedges at c and we knew he couldn't hit. I would say don't completely write off Mejia as a bust; sure Hand is performing well, but after he left our bullpen (until the start of this season) was still good; he really only pitched for us for one complete year and RP are notoriously volatile. Mejia has noticeably improved behind the plate and if his hitting was impaired by injury, then that explains why the exit velocity was down and him hitting those fly balls to the warning track and not crisply in the gaps or over the wall. He still likes to hack away, but his K rate is not unacceptable. This one needs further evaluation and I think he eventually splits time with Campusano and Nola behind the plate or rotating at DH or elsewhere as a valuable piece in this offense unless traded. I believe Hand hits FA unless a 10M option is taken up this year. I'm all for our ex-Padres doing well because that makes it easier to make a trade when it is perceived you got value for value.

Quote from WindsorUK on September 10, 2020, 12:38 amJust waiting to hear from the Marlins manager about Duvall hitting a grand slam against his team when the Braves are up 16 runs in the 7th.
Obviously Duvall and the Braves are unaware of Baseball's unwritten rules as well....
