This is a bummer. I hope it's not too bad. Was rooting for him to start for CIN and have a shot to show he can be the SS on a winner.
Does this rekindle the Lindor talks?
IF CINN deems Galvis' injury to be long term ... and since they are built to contend for the NL Central ... they will have to start looking for a SS since they have no ML quality back-up or top prospects ML ready.
Lindor would be "tricky" since CLEVE still wants to contend and part of the previous rumors included Galvis to CLEV. Without Galvis ... the "hole" just shifts between the two contenders.
Still, CINN has to be looking for at least a "serviceable" ML level SS. Could the Padres help? Probably not although a long shot could be Profar to CINN for a low level prospect.
Actually, CIN might want to take a look at Brandon Crawford. I know he has declined on both sides of the ball, but he has the pedigree for a contender. Not sure what his contract looks like.

Good call ..... Crawford is due $15.2MM in 2020 and 2021 ... pricy for his current level but may be worth the price if Galvis is really out for a long run (and is a FA after the season). Doubt SF would want anything in return if they can dump his salary.

Quote from WindsorUK on March 10, 2020, 1:59 amAnyone see the Barry Bonds article on ESPN? About how he believes MLB has given him a death sentence? Dude has some nerve - he knows he cheated ( and for all you doubters, I lifted in the same gym with him on more than one occasion. Easy to spot guys on gear when you're in the same environment) and stole the games most hallowed record from from an absolute institution!
Interesting that this was on ESPN today, the day after I read Doug Glanville's story about how PED's were worse than sign stealing.
Guys like Piazza, Pudge, Bagwell, Biggio were all lucky to fly under the radar to get enshrined.
Bonds was a magnificent player before he used. Just not the HR machine he became whilst on. Shame he wasn't happy with that because he certainly could have been an HOF'er without it, same as Clemens.

Quote from LynchMob on March 11, 2020, 10:51 amEric Lauer is dealing with a left shoulder impingement and is not expected to be ready for Opening Day.
The Brewers don't consider it to be a long-term injury, but obviously at this stage of spring training the lefty just won't have time to make it back for Opening Day. Freddy Peralta and Corbin Burnes are now lefty to compete for the final spot in the team's rotation.

I like Lauer and wish him the best. He should have a long, solid career( if he can stay healthy)

Quote from fenn68 on March 11, 2020, 7:19 pmThe NBA just announced they are suspending the season after two player tested positive for the CV-19 ...
NCAA is planning on playing the tournament without fans in the seasons ...
Cities / States are putting limits on gatherings ... max 1000 ... some less ...
Have to worry MLB will be compelled to suspend the early part of the season (or play to empty stands) ... going to be a tough choice but the health of the players and fans is more important.

... Major League Baseball officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told BA the league plans to issue league-wide guidelines on minor league pay for the regular season after it finishes negotiations with the Major League Baseball Players Association on issues pertaining to 40-man roster players.
With three weeks remaining before the originally scheduled minor league Opening Day, MLB has time to formulate a plan for paying minor leaguers as long as the regular season is postponed.
In the interim, individual clubs are making the decision if—or how—to compensate their minor leaguers until then. Baseball America contacted all 30 teams on March 16 and asked if they were currently paying their minor leaguers at all.
Twelve teams—the Rays, Mets, Dodgers, Red Sox, Marlins, Padres, Cardinals, Tigers, Yankees, Indians, D-backs and Giants—confirmed to BA or other media outlets they are continuing to pay their minor leaguers their spring training stipends, allowances and/or per diems even as camps have shut down.
The Cubs, Angels and Royals said they were working to determine a plan. The Rangers and White Sox referred comment to MLB. The Braves declined to comment.
The remaining 12 teams did not respond. A minor league player with the Nationals informed BA that they were not receiving any stipend or per diem at this time.
The minimum weekly salary for minor leaguers during the 2020 regular season was scheduled to be $290 at the Rookie, short-season and Class A levels, $350 at Double-A and $502 at Triple-A. Some teams, such as the Blue Jays and Giants, previously announced they would pay their minor leaguers higher salaries.
Whether minor leaguers will receive those amounts, or different amounts, while the regular season is delayed is pending until MLB issues its league-wide guidelines, which are expected in the coming weeks.
Until then, minor leaguers are largely living on the spring training stipends, allowances and/or per diems they are receiving from their teams—if they are receiving them at all.

Looks as though a lot of teams ... noting the season is mess ... are opting (as well as the players) to push the TJ decisions forward.
Tough for Thor ... he will be a FA after 2021 but will be fortunate to pitch maybe a half of season in 2021 and questionable how effective he would be as soon as he returns.
At 29 at that time ... instead of that potential mega deal ... he may opt of a one year deal to build his value back up and hit FA at age 30. Might be smart to sign with a good team in a pitcher’s park.
