No one has really talked about this but....

We held on to Alex Dickerson for 4 injury plagued seasons....just as he gets healthy we give up on him and suddenly

he’s the Giants best hitter......AND we are looking for a LH hitting outfielder?

Were thinking about trading for Mazara?

That is Andy Green at his best

100% wrong.  That's an AJ Preller decision.  A.D. had 19 AB with us (selected up only due to Jank & Cordero injuries), then went on IL.  Got sent back down when healthy then DFA...He was clearly a depth type guy.... BUT talent doesn't just vanish either.

Given the chronic need for LH OF, this looks like a bad move now... but on Preller, not Green

Thought it was a poor move at the time since I really liked Dickerson's bat ... when healthy.

However, at 29 and with his string of injuries and very limited ML time plus poor defense, I could see the call although would have moved Pirela before him since Dickerson has a minor league option for this year.

Another in a long line of "better suited for the AL as a DH". Sort of why the trade value of those types are low.

Pirela is like a cat with nine lives.

I guess because he can play infield and outfield he survives.

and now he is a Philly (for cash considerations) ... cheap versatility.

Yep......he still has a few lives left for Philly.

Thats one roster spot....only 3 more to go.

Already used his roster spot for Jankowski coming off the 60 day DL on 23rd. That is when Pirela was DFA.

Astros gave up 3 of their top 5 prospects for Greinke.

Yikes.

I hate this because it likely makes Arizona better in the long haul.

Not really sure what the Giants are doing?

They keep MadBum and trade for Scooter Gennett....while at the same time they trade some of their best relievers for

prospects.

I guess that's the definition of trying to win now while also thinking about the future.

Says something about Houston's farm system ... really past Tucker and Whitley the quality is questionable. Basically the pretty much emptied the cupboard in the past few years in other trade (and players stepping up to the ML). The key for AZ was Houston taking $53MM of the remaining Greinke contract.

Beer can hit but is a DH only even though he is listed as 1B not sure how that helps AZ ... guessing waiting for the DH in the NL. (in AA) , Martin in out with TJ, Bubauskas (in AA) has never been able to find control and getting hit around a lot .. maybe a RP down the road (has the FB). Think the $53MM was the key the prospect were just lottery tickets thrown in.

Ownership may have a lot to do with not deal MadBum ... combined with still having a puncher's chance for the Wild Card. He means a lot to that organization and the fans ... he may help the win this year but his staying will just strengthen the loyalty of the fans from treating the local hero with respect. Maybe just loyalty, maybe see him as major piece in contending in 2019, or for the cynics maybe see him as keeping the fans coming and boosting the revenue by more than whatever "prospects" were offered. For a "rental" no matter how good ... in this market ... may not have been all that compelling. Worst case, a QO and get a Comp Pick if he leaves.

They did hold on their two top RP and seem to like some of their other options ... so yeh, more tinker on the fringe to balance still competing in 2019 and getting better in the future .
