Happy to see it

As excited as I was to see Waldron have some success this year, that trade set us back both financially( having to spend big on Jake and signing Bogaerts) and in productivity( Naylor, Quantril, Miller, and now Cantillo).

I enjoy seeing former farmhands succeed. Here's to a long, healthy career for Joey.

Still happy for those guys, they just clinched a playoffs berth, now, I know broadcasters are to some degree homers, which I am ok with, but to heard those guys say that they are "arguably" in the best division in MLB is delusional, when you have a team with less than 40 wins at this point of the season should indicate that is not the case IMHO.

Nationals Option CJ Abrams To Triple-A

Since the Midsummer Classic, however, Abrams’ production has tailed off.  The shortstop has hit only .203/.260/.326 in 204 PA during the second half, and gone yard only five times.  Abrams’ strikeout rate has risen from 20.1% in the first half to 23.53% in the second half, and his line drive rate plummeted from 23.6% to 7.8%.

Should add he is ranked as one of the poorest defensive SS.

Still, quite a change from his 1st half as an All-Star to a 2nd half dud.

He reportedly stayed out at a casino all night and didn't leave until 8 am. The Nats played the Cubs at 1:20 pm. Dave Martinez made it clear it wasn't a performance issue that led to the decision.

Yikes ... that is commitment but not to baseball ... that does deserve a wake-up call (and just guessing his second half make this easier).

Gambling is a powerful addiction.   Hope he hasn't done something that would ban him from the game.  Doubt it is more that just a paper move since Rochester's season ends on Sunday; don't think they want to humiliate him - just get his head on straight.

He certainly fell off after a hot start. Assuming this ends his season, his overall line ends up pretty close to what he did last year. In 2023 he hit .245/.300/.412 in 614 PAs. This year he's at .246/.314/.433 in 602 PAs. So a very small improvement, but he also went 47/51 stealing bases last year. This year he went 31/43. He seems to have all the tools, but the numbers show he really hasn't gotten much better. Stories like this are going to bring questions about his character and work ethic. Hopefully it's a wakeup call for him.

This story makes me appreciate what Merrill is doing at his age even more. There was a story earlier this season that Merrill was sitting in his car at the ballpark for 30 minutes waiting to go inside. He said he got there so early that he didn't want to piss off the clubbies.

Max Scherzer, who is 40, has been placed on the 15-day IL ending his season. It seems like he is always in the IL. He should retire.

May seem that way but the past three season he did get his starts and pitched well ... this year not so much.

He is a FA coming off a year (and a few years) where he made $43MM ... so should slide into retirement without much worry. Not sure he wants to retire ... not sure any team will pay him enough to keep him happy unless he just wants to return for the fun of it ... money not the issue ... maybe another pennant run.

His retirement home is in FLA ... maybe an East Coast contender might be a match?

There are positives here to be respected ... Dylan Floro

Giving Floro His Flowers

All in all, from his first pitch in 2018 through July 30, 2024, Floro accumulated 6.7 WAR. That’s an average of just over 1.1 WAR per full season. Only nine relievers compiled more WAR than Floro in that time

Rockies Charlie Blackmon is retiring after the season. He was one of their best players and always a thorn in the Padres side.
