Quote from brent wolff on August 7, 2024, 11:48 amSo Wood has some holes in his game as Randy stated above. Hassell looks like he isn't going to develop into a top level player either as Randy also detailed.
Gore is still rather inconsistent as well, at least he is eating some innings for the Nats, had one good month of starts, then several bad starts following. Abrams is likely to be the best player we gave up in the deal, however, he is still rather inconsistent and has some mental lapses as well. Like the game against us earlier this year when he got picked off a couple of times, one was just a relay throw back into the infield in which CJ was just very lacksadasial getting back to the first base bag.
Haven't really seen or heard much on the big RHSP Susana (sp?) that was in the deal also, so he hasn't developed as projected either. So, the deal isn't looking as bad as it initially looked for AJP. AJP basically got Cease & King back from the trading away of Soto.
Getting Soto was all about trying to get a championship for Peter Seidler before he passed. If Schildt had been the manager last year, instead of Melvin, I would have liked our chances much better. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 8, 2024, 7:58 amIt seemed Melvin didn't know how to handle a team of superstars, feeling much more comfortable with guys with probably lesser egos who weren't playing for big money contracts. Melvin is having that kind of success this year after several of his potential stars were injured and he had to bring the team up from below .500.
On the other hand, Shildt seems to know when to be calm and when to be fired up and always to put faith in the player trying to do his best, no matter what the results. There is a vibe in this clubhouse that wasn't there last year and it was too bad that Peter Seidler isn't around to see it - he would have loved this team and how they have battled all year! Go Padres!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on August 22, 2024, 2:01 pmI'm sad to see Joey Votto's career come to an end like this. I wish he could have made it back onto the field this year. One of the best player's of this generation on and off the field. He should be a no doubt Hall of Famer in my book.

Quote from fenn68 on August 27, 2024, 2:48 amThe CWS are headed to a ML record. Since 1900 the most losses in a season has been 120 (METS in first season) … CWS are already at 101 losses with around 30 games to go … record is in their grasp. Only 21 teams have lost 110 or more … soon to be 22.
If this were the EPL … CWS would be clearly relegated to the PCL for 2025.
