Around the League...non Padres

Is it just me or is Albert Pujols on something?.. Dude just had the best 10 game stretch of his entire Career and he is close to being a Senior Citizen???

I think Pujols has just been revitalized by getting out of Anaheim and embracing a part-time role. He killed lefties after he went to the Dodgers last year and he's doing it again for the Cardinals. 10 of his 14 HRs and all 6 in the current hot streak are off of lefties. His splits are crazy. He's got a .600 OPS against righties and a 1.242 against lefties.

Arte Moreno Exploring Possible Sale Of Angels

20 years ... a long run ... he spent (not necessarily wisely) ... had little success ... and ongoing troubles with the City of Anaheim on a new (or modified) ballpark.

Never know how these types of sales play out but with the WASH pending sale (coupled with a bad team) they opted to tear down the team ... lower payroll ... to make the financials more appealing to new buyers (not unusual path to selling companies to not burden new buyers with future liabilities).

Could we see a push to deal Trout and Otani?

Definitely an interesting change in the scene of baseball. Will Trout push and try to go home to PHI. Imagine an OF of Castellanos, Trout, and Harper!?!?

Then Otani can jump the train and come down the coast to SD, and pair with Darvish. Giving SD a rotation of Musgrove, Otani, Snell, Darvish, and Clevinger, and replace Bell as the DH.

Have you seen the attendance figures at Oakland?

Only 2630 last night!

And that was more than the 2488 on May 2nd ... ouch!

Good God Cruz (Pitt) just hit a ball 122.74 mph exit velo for a single..ball got to RF and back to 2B almost as quick as he got to 1B

Just on observation of payroll and the playoffs … using Cot’s for current CBT payrolls:

AL playoff positioning:

1. Houston … $198MM (10th highest in MLB)

2. NYY ,,, $259MM (3rd highest)

3. Cleveland … $90MM (27th highest) … benefits from being in the Central

4. Tampa Bay … $116MM (23rd highest) … always the most out of less

5. Toronto … $191MM (11th highest)

6. Seattle … $104MM (24th highest)

NL playoff positioning:

1. LAD … $302MM (1st)

2. NYM … $288MM (2nd)

3. STL … $174MM (13th)

4. ATL … $206MM (9th)

5. PHIL … $237MM (5th)

6. SD … $230MM (6th)

So, 5 of the 6 teams exceeding the CBT threshold are in the playoffs … sorry BOST who is the 6th team ($242MM … 4th highest) but sitting in the AL in 10th place.

Or you can look at it as 7 of the 12 playoff teams did not have to exceed the threshold.

If spending is your bag … not good to be in the NL where LAD and NYM are really spending big bucks along with a financially healthy PHIL. Plus STL and ATL, while under the limit are spending at a healthy clip. Plus history shows that SF can kick it into gear whenever they want.

Going to be a challenge for the Padres unless get smarter on internal development and in lower cost adds. Not going to outspend their top NL opponents.

Seems like you have to spend in the NL cause more teams spend there.. AL looks like only a couple teams spend so it allows lower spending clubs a chance to compete..

No longer is each team’s slate significantly skewed toward division opponents. Instead, the schedules will feature more variety. For the first time in modern MLB history, every team will play every other team at some point.

  • If weather permits, Opening Day on March 30 would be the first in which every MLB team opens on the same day since 1968.
  • All 30 clubs are also scheduled to be in action on the Fourth of July.
