Around the League...non Padres

He still has roughly $5 million left on his contract for this year. Can the Padres afford that? For a backup?

If Andrus was released the entire contract is OAK's problem ... any team that signs him only has to pay the prorated league minimum which should be around $200K

Nice. I guess the Padres could use him and get rid of Batten. He will probably choose a team that can give him consistent at-bats for the rest of the year though. That isn't the Padres anymore.

Hard to identify any team that would be interested in him for the next 6-7 weeks (even on the cheap). A non-contender has no motivation and a contender would really need SS boost / insurance to sign Andrus and integrate him into the team (at the expense of a current roster player) for that short spell. However, probably someone else besides the Padres that fit.

Of course, Andrus may just want the vacation ... he is getting full pay. With Boras as his agent who knows.

Sounds like he is going to CWS, to replace Anderson who is hurt for 4-6 weeks.

Very unlikely BUT if Andrus takes the starting role for the CWS his vesting option would kick in if he played all the remaining games and averaged just under 5 PA / game.

I guess that is possible if CWS are in contention up through the last day of the season. Brings me back to the question as to who is one the hook for 2023 if it vests?

A couple of oddities to report

C Carlos Carrasco threw out 3 base runners trying to steal in one inning.. last time this happened was 1914

In the DSL both teams playing each other threw no hitters against each other .. one WON on errors by SS and the C...

Wynton Bernard got called up by the Rockies. We were friends in middle school. He's been grinding in the minors for 10 years. It's cool to see him finally make it to the show.

I didn't realize he was originally drafted by the Padres.

How about that....

Not only that, but I didn't realize he went to RB High (where I went to HS). Great story.

Also, people can say what they will about Coach Kentera, but the fact that he is still to this day involved with Wynton's life on a daily basis speaks volumes about his qualities as a human being. San Diego's lucky to have him as a part of our sports community.

I just saw Fammil Reyes playing for the CUBS!

Must have missed the transaction but apparently Cleveland DFA’d Reyes in early August and the Cubs claimed him.

Wow … high upside with the Padres … one outstanding season in Cleveland … then the bottom must have fallen out to get DFA’d (must have been out of minor league options, I guess).

Gotta love this!

Pujols is ALL TIME!

How do his numbers stack up against The Iron Horse? Arguably the 2 greatest 1st baseman EVER!

MAN........we are so LUCKY to see Albert play!
