The White Sox granted Adam Eaton his unconditional release Monday.
ANALYSIS
Eaton will hit the open market after no organization was willing to put a waiver claim in for the veteran outfielder and the money remaining on his one-year, $7 million deal when Chicago designated him for assignment last week.

Someone will sign him...but may be after the trade deadline.

Sure seems like the AL dominance in the All-Star Game means something ... and it's probably as simple as "the AL has more good players".  As an NL fan, that's not fun ...

I'm sure we've all seen this:

Bad baseball....and it appears more frequently these days.

The hard to fathom swings in MLB … consider the case of Cody Bellinger. MVP in 2019 (305/406/629) while leading the LAD … super star. Previous two seasons were also good.

Since May 21, 2019 … 738 AB (.239 BA) … in 2021 (only 163 AB … 161/282/270) and getting benched.

LAD I guess are lucky they did not sign him to a long term deal (he is making $16MM via his ARB 1). He has two more Arb years (and salaries don’t go down via arb).

With that salary … and those results … not really a trade option. IF you are the LAD are you into the position of DFA after the season?

Just hard to see someone playing elite level drop to non-ML quality in just two year (he is just 26 years old).

(note I was formerly from Cleveland) ... apparently Cleveland has decided on a new name but has not announced it ... no date give.

One interesting comment was that selection of a name had to avoid names already owned by others ... copywriting is easy ... and being unique for marketing is an objective. Most will sell the rights (or demand royalties) but who knows the demands.

Still leading the fan voting (not binding mind you) is the Spiders ... once the nickname for a Cleveland franchise in a different league pre-AL. Would be unique and COULD be good for merchandising ... stuffed animals and see a logo of a web like baseball glove.

A few in contention are former names ... Naps for Napoleon LaJoie (doubt want a team taking a Nap), the Greys, and one I never heard of "the Bronchos" ... must have been short lived. The "Rockers" for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

But sitting 3rd is the "Guardians" ... saw some logos that look good but hard to envision a cuddly stuffed animal souvenir. Apparently based on the sculpture on the Memorial Bridge (never knew) and was in the opening shot of Major League. Art Deco style and got 20% of the vote. Clearly unique in the world of ML baseball but reminds me of some of the newer nicknames in other sports. At least it has a connection to Cleveland history.

Cleveland has named it's team after a Liberal British newspaper?

No, silly 🙂 ... it's a MARVELous name!  My 4-year-old grandson will be thrilled by this ... and, obviously, that was a factor, as it should be.

I was hoping for Spiders ... or Rockers ... but the future is coming, whether I/we like it or not 🙂

Nailed it …. Maybe a tie in with Rocket Raccoon and Groot serving as mascots?

Note: Cleveland (the city) has the label “the forest city” for a century plus …. Groot is a tree (sort of). This all comes together.

Plus they are using the same red color scheme and the same type style for the words … then consider guarDIANS sounds a lot like inDIANS. It is all good.

Well done on their part (and this is coming from a former Clevelander).

Gotta admit Lynch, it doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

I do see the MARVELOUS connection. It'll be interesting to see how the name evolves over time. Indians to Tribe, Padres to Friars, Yankees to Bronx Bombers, Dodgers to Duds, Guardians to....????

And Lynch, if this gets your grandson stoked on baseball, even better🤙
