Please no on Tingler.  Note Acre mentions fluid situation and several names on AJ list that had not managed before.  I still think AJ Ellis is on that list.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that no one here knows anything about Jayce Tingler.

So I’m surprised anyone would already be saying “no” to hiring him.

I’m gonna also go out in a limb and say that if he’s a serious candidate there are several good reasons.....ones we also have no idea about.

Lastly...I have followed baseball very closely for over 50 years and can honestly say there are successful managers in MLB right now.........Some in the playoffs even that I had never heard of when they were hired by their current teams.

Just food for thought.

Pretty normal for fans to go for name recognition ... hard to debate the pros and cons of the unknown individual.

Sometime back I posted the “experience” of the playoff managers at the time they were hired ... none were the experienced veteran ML manager types.

It does not help when the media’s early storyline was that the Padres this time were looking of experience, success, and someone who can come in with “presence” in the clubhouse to command respect of the players. Sort of biases the fans’ thinking.

However, recent commentary seems to “soften” that storyline ... now more open to a less experienced option “if it is the right guy”. Might have something to do with Maddon going to LAA and (based on their due diligence) not being interested in Showalter, Bochy wanting to sit out 2020, and maybe not enthralled with Girardi (and likely he is more focused on Cubs, Mets). Are their options for “experience” and “success” just not there?

Maybe they go with a modification of my Showalter / Tingler combo from an earlier post and go with Ron Washington / Tingler (still that duo has Rangers / Preller connections). Ron Washington is old enough to not be a long term solution. Side: since Washington is still in the playoffs ... maybe contributing to the slow pace for the Padres conducting interviews?

Other than liking options for their non-managerial past ... no way a fan can really evaluate those options as managers (but will not stop the opinions).

Well, should be interesting.

Also Dave Roberts, Aaron Boone, Alex Cora -- all in postseason all had ZERO managerial experience when they were hired.. allm had winning records as rookie managers.. Cora won the WS as a rook... just saying... Maddon, Bochy, etc.. experienced or not are not managing at the moment in the postseason...

Ron Washington is at least still coaching in the post season..

Except that Boone, Roberts, and Cora all went to high end teams that were already good/great and had post season success. I think most of us on here agree that we are not yet in the same spot player wise as NYY, LAD, and BOS. Many think that we are close; however, we do need additional players to get to the level as the teams that you mentioned.

Even Baldelli in MIN; another first year/no experience guy, had more pieces than SD at this time. Plus, they had made the playoffs in 2017 as well.

So the right first year guy could be fine, as long AJP gets some additional weapons for him. Cole, Dickerson, and ship out Myers.

You can now add PHI to the list of open jobs. Another large market team with "stupid, crazy" money to spend.

LAA - CUBS - PHIL - METS - SF all now in play for managers (along with the little guys in PITT and KC) .... money, high profile cities should be able to lure the bigger names if they want.

Things will get really crazy IF the LAD decide to move on for Roberts.

Getting the sense that Ron Washington may move to the best odds to get the SD spot. Certainly getting a lot more media attention (and praise) over the past few days. Plus not sure he has surfaced on any other teams' priority list.

Maddon (LAA), Girardi (CUBS), Showalter (PHIL) were the guesses before but METS have a chance to muddy that scenario ... then if LAD dump Roberts??????

The plot thickens.

IF LAD moves on from Roberts, does SD look at Roberts? Played for SD, graduated from RBV in Vista. Is he a good manager, or has he been a product of taking over a team laden with talent and cant get them to the finish line?

When looking at the teams that were in the playoffs this season, ATL and STL. Both teams went with relatively unknown guys in Shilt and Snitker. I believe both had MiL managing experience, so maybe Barajas is still a strong option as well.

Youre right Fenn, should be interesting.

Just read that Fredi Gonzalez; current 3B coach of the Marlins, has informed MIA that he will not return next season in that role. He had some success in ATL, is bilingual, could he become an option for SD?
