Roberts might not give SD the time of day... since we didn't even bother to grant him an interview when he went on to get LAD job.   Always thought that was beyond ridiculous on SD's part... never understood that rationale.

Well, it's becoming kind of obvious as the Manager interview & hire story progresses how high a priority the Pads are placing on a guy being bi-lingual.

The issue I have with a guy like Tingler is:  Will he have the players' respect that he is his "own man", making his own decisions, not just handing down what the Front Office dictates.   Guys like Girardi, Bochy, & Washington have nothing to prove to Preller & co... BUT will they take F.O. input, and how do they handle a large contingent of YOUNG players they might not be able to communciate as well directly with?

What if Preller insists on input or even autonomy hiring  the Bench Coach?  Seems like you could accomplish best of both worlds with a "strong" experiened Manager with a bilingual younger bench coach possibly in line to succeed?

Unfortunate circumstance with the Angels may have a ripple effect on the managerial situation.

The reports are that a former LAA front office person is cooperating with Federal Officials on the opioid situation with the Angels and the linkage with the death of Tyler Skaggs. Apparently this guy was involved in the opioid distribution with Skaggs but possible other players and front office people MAY BE involved or at least knew of the situation.

If so, might a high profile manager candidate (e.g. Maddon) prefer to take his talents elsewhere? Does any high profile candidate  “gamble” on the outcome of other players / front office personal getting axed when potentially other high profile opportunities exist (e.g. METS, PHILS).

Sad wrinkle but real life consideration.

Given it is a Federal investigation .... will take some time for outcome. Guessing they will be trying to get some of the accused to roll up on the suppliers.

Sit and wait and the alternatives will be filled leaving the veteran either without a job or without leverage for a job that may be short some key personnel on the field and in the front office ... potentially a rebuild and no certainty the new GM is not focused on “his man” or “going a different direction”.

Not seeing the LAA job ... with the uncertainty ... as worth waiting on if PHIL or NYM or CUBS (ex. Maddon) are making an offer from a more high profile team / city. Actually, those franchise might use the LAA situation as a way to get a decision on the opening sooner if Maddon - Girardi - Showalter - Scioscia - Washington - Baker are lurking and don’t want to be the odd man out.

The guy who was buying the drugs for Skaggs is currently in rehab. He gave the names of 5 other players he bought for and 1 other FO person that he told about Skaggs drug use. I am sure the guy in rehab does not have a job anymore. The guy that he told about it has already denied that he knew anything. So it's just that one guy. I doubt that would have any effect.
