Newspeople make up the news nowadays. I doubt anybody told any reporter who the favorite is. They make guesses from the information that is available, just like us. I can't say that I am surprised. Preller is making the hire. He is going to want to get somebody who does things his way. Since he basically trained Tingler in his style, it only makes sense that Tingler would be his choice.

Unfortunately, AG was his guy.

We see how that turned out.

Has Tingle EVER managed anywhere in the majors or coached at the big league level? If not, might have a hard time getting vets( read: Machado, Hosmer, Yates) to support him( they weren't too supportive of how AJ used San Diego as a training ground for players. How will they think about using it as a training ground for managers?)

Here's hoping Washington gets the nod..... unless they secretly want Girardi😉

Tingler has managed in the minors and in Winter leagues .. In fact Tingler has won Championships with every team he has managed...

2008 DSL Rangers manager .. 1st place

2009 DSL Rangers manager .. 1st place

2010 AZ Rangers manager ... 1st place

Dude has never been 2nd place.. Just stating facts.. As a Manager

I doubt a clubhouse of major league ball players will be impressed by Dominican summer league championships from 10, 11 years ago. The fact is Tingler hasn’t managed the equivalent to a high class A team.

Boone didn't even managed high school prior to this yr..

Is not what you have done is how you go about your business.... I could take over the Padres tomorrow and can 100% guarantee you those guys would play with hustle and be fundamentaly sound veterans or rookies.. I would manage them the way I have managed many capital ventures and other things in life.. Challenging and getting the most out of people in a firm fair and friendly way.. Lets go!

Boone comes from a well known third generation big league family. His Dad was a manger. Boone himself was an all star at the Major League Level and was a Yankee legend for his playoff heroics. Plus he had been a main analyst on ESPN for years. I had Moises Alou high on my list of desired candidates and he didn’t have previous managing experience. If you don’t see the difference between Alou, Boone types and some guy named Jayce Tingler then I can’t help you. Henry, I’m sure you are talented at what you do, but managing an investment firm and a major league clubhouse are two very different things. Coming in with an “I guarantee” ego as a guy with zero big league credentials likely wouldn’t get you very far.

Murphy over Doc. Andy over Gardenhire. I love AJP, but let’s not act like his eye for managerial talent has been all that great. If he goes with Tingler fans have the right to be nervous based on AJP’s history and Tingler’s lack there of. Again, if Tingler is the choice I will hop on board. I hope he wins and shuts me up, but ill definitely be nervous going into the year if he’s the choice over Washington.

As in the world of finance ... past results are not a guarantee of future success (see Sears, et al). Wasn't Casey Stengel a genius when managing the NYY for 12 seasons (none losing seasons and a ton of World Series appearances)? Few really remember his previous 9 seasons managing with Brooklyn / Boston Braves were all losing seasons before the NYY job then after his 4 seasons managing the Mets were all losing seasons (badly losing seasons).

I will go out on a limb and suggest that the quality of the team has something to do with the success of a manager.

In that respect, was Washington's success in Texas a result of having a superior team .... or argue that Washington's superior managing took Texas to greater heights. (No way to correctly answer that).

I have worries about all the candidates .. interviewed and not interviewed. Washington may have the resume most of us would like (plus a lot of support) ... still concerned that he is not in the running for other ML manager slots now or over the past 5 years. What do the ML teams see (or not see) that keeps him out of getting ML managerial slots? Clearly they love him as a coach ... a factor on the bench ... but that next step to manager?

Ron Washington’s past results are Elvis Andrus, Marcus Semien, Dansby Swanson and Ozzie Albines. I want that guy working with Tatis, Urias. There is a reason players love and respect Washington. The Rangers beat writer said “his players would run through a wall for him.” Atlanta seems up in arms about the thought of losing Washington. Past success doesn’t guarantee results in business or baseball, but it’s clear Washington has the track record and is the safer bet. AJP can’t get this call wrong again so my hope is he goes with the safe bet.

As a coach or as a manager? ... not the same skill set.

Obviously mangers and coaches have different roles. He managed Andrus, but that doesn’t mean he won’t do any coaching/development work because he’s a manager. I used those 4 because they’ve gone on record crediting Washington for some of their success. Do you think if Washington is manager he won’t have say in how players are coached/developed? Fenn, I noticed you say you are concerned about Washington not being picked up as a manger with other teams since he left Texas. Well if the two options are Washington or Tingler...one is the most successful manager in the Rangers history. The other has been passed over 5 times by Rangers when they had a managerial opening.  It doesn’t seem like much of a choice to me.

Clearly I would prefer Washington over Tingler for this Padre team.

Just not yet buying into Washington as being the answer as a manager. However, totally agree that he should provide the development need for the young players ... and that is worth a lot. On a wall of worry here.

Now that Bochy has come out “officially” that he will not manage in 2020 .... both Washington and Tingler have had second round interviews with Fowler / Siedler .... there will be a gap between the end of the ALCS and the start of the World Series ... not much else to do but make the announcement somewhere between the end of the ALCS and the World Series.

Gives the new manager a week or so to get in sync with the front office on the current roster prior to participating in roster decisions coming  soon.

Am I correct that once the world series starts that if the Padres haven't named their manager beforehand they will have to wait until the series is over?
