2024 Padres Season

So we continue to run Peralta and Johnson out to RF while one of the All Stars rides the bench each day?

Not ideal.

If Manny can play 3B getting them all in the lineup is no problem. When he needs a DH day they might have to shuffle some things around or bring one of them off the bench. They could try to mitigate it by scheduling DH days for Manny against lefties and benching Jake. Jake has a .555 OPS against lefties. Let Solano play 3B and put Arraez at 1B against them. Maybe it's not ideal, but if Bogaerts is healthy and performing it can only help. The ability to get guys some rest without a major dropoff is a good thing.

I wish we had a better fill-in option in RF too. I don't think there's anyway they just drop someone with no experience in the OF out there midseason though.

Jeremy, what about Tirso Ornelas?  Is he strictly a LFer?

I would like to see him get a shot. I think the knock on him was always that he was a heavy ground ball hitter. It seems like he's doing a better job of lifting the ball this year. I don't think he's considered to be a particularly strong defensive outfielder. He has gotten most of his time in LF this year. I also never really know what to make of PCL performances. On the surface his .297/.376/.498 line seems incredible. We're talking about a league where .267/.358/.447 is the average line though. Bryce Johnson had ridiculous numbers down there too. I'm not that upset about him getting the initial opportunity.

Thanks Jeremy.

Whereas I’ve always known that the PCL is a hitter’s league, an average OPS of .805 is ridiculous.  How are we supposed to get an accurate idea of a player’s degree of readiness for the bigs based on their performance in that league?…

I have always viewed AAA as a holding spot because of the inflated numbers and a lot of the players have MLB experience with split contracts but it seems that more and more teams are bringing guys up from AA …Jackson Merrill as an example…I could be wrong but I don’t think he played a single inning at AAA

I also think pitching stats get a bit skewed at AAA and I’ve seen pitchers make the jump from AA to MLB as well.

Big series in my opinion starting tonight against the Dbacks…it would be great putting some distance between our padres and any team behind us in the NL West and keep improving the record to stay above.500 and put a stranglehold on a wild card spot.

Go Padres !!!

I don't know if you really can. The Athletic put out an article about how the gap between AAA and the majors is perceived by many to be the biggest it has ever been. It does seem like a lot of young players are struggling to make the jump. At a certain point you may just have to take the leap and give them the chance to do it, but also the opportunity to make adjustments when they struggle. With the team in a tight wildcard race I can see why they might be reluctant to do that. Especially for a lower ranked guy like Ornelas.

I agree 100%. A sweep would be very very crippling to the DBacks hopes and would be the sledgehammer the padres need to really cripple the dbacks after their big win yesterday. Winning 2 of 3 is definitely a must, while only widening the gap by another game. Losing 2 of 3 would be a disappointment but not crippling for the Padres. Need a series win to push the season record against Arizona to either 6-4 or 7-3. With a sweep guaranteeing the season series win and the tiebreaker should they end the season tied

Yu Darvish to the restricted list.

Personal issue…….not physical.

Hope all is well with him and his family.

Rosario is playing RF tonight in El Paso.
