2024 Padres Season

Since Musgrove has return from the IL, he has been the Padres best pitcher. So, I hope he pitches game 1 of the wild card series, followed by King or Cease, and then King or Cease if game 3 is necessary.
Musgrove: 2.55 ERA in 5 starts and a 0.74 ERA in 4 of those 5 starts, in September after return from IL that include 3 shutouts starts.
King: 2.15 ERA Post ASB, 1.57 ERA in 4 starts in September
Cease: 2.65 ERA post ASB, 2.97 ERA in 5 stars ion September that include 2 shutouts start.
Darvish: 3.55 in 5 starts in September since his return from IL that include 1 shutout start.

My guess is you start Cease in Game 1. If he's on, we take him to the 7th and finish with the bullpen. If he doesn't have it, pull him earlier than later and replace with King and hopefully we rally for the win. Win or Lose Game 1, Musgrove goes in game 2. King/Darvish in Game 3, if necessary. Offense needs to do its part.

The argument against moving Musgrove to game 1 is that Cease gets another off day between starts and that may hurt his command.

We want the Mets to win at least the 1st game of the double header. Because, if the Braves win the 1st game, they clinch the 5th spot and have no reason to use Sale in the 2nd game and Sale would probably open the wild card series against the Padres. We don't want that. For the Padres to play the Mets, the Mets would have to win both games knocking out the Braves and the 6th seed going to the Dbacks.

Yeah I want the Braves in this series "if" they have to use Sale.
Their offense is the weakest of the three options...by quite a bit actually.
A Mets win in Game one is a huge advantage for SD no matter who wins game 2
The D Backs are not playing well right now...but that could change quickly as we saw last night.But,that was against our 5th and 6th starters who won't see the mound in the playoffs unless in mop up duty and may not even be on the playoff roster.
